A Day to Celebrate the Emerald Isle

Happy St. Patrick's Day! May you find the 4th Leaf on all the Clovers you happen to find this year.

Today we celebrate the Death of St. Patrick. I thought we were celebrating a Leprechaun who found Pots of Gold at the ends of Rainbows. Guess the story gets re-told a lot after 1500 years of sitting on a bar stool.

I also thought that St. Patrick drove out the snakes from Ireland but Ireland had no snakes to chase out, the Ice Age took care of that. And the "snakes" were maybe actually the Druids. And St. Patrick drove the natives out.

So what were the Stars doing on the day that St. Patrick died? I mean, because you know that a million Irish Souls must have been cussing the holy dickens out of the guy.

There was a Grand Trine in the sky. Sun in Pisces was in conjunction with Jupiter in Aries. A little Aries Point action. Maybe that's why the legend lives on. Sun-Jupiter was trining Neptune in Scorpio and the North Node in Cancer. The Sun was also opposing Pluto. And Mars was conjunct Uranus to the degree in Aquarius. Was his death an accident? It would be interesting to know how St. Patrick died. Somebody must have pushed him off his bar stool.

Erin go Bragh!

Last Week: Farrah, Ed and Michael

The Solstice this Summer preceded the New Moon by a day. This happened in first degrees of Cancer which means that Pluto was involved. The Sun-Moon conjunction was opposing Pluto this past week. This was considered a momentous week in U.S. Entertainment History because 3 major celebrities passed away. How amazing that the Planet of Fame (Pluto) on the Aries Point (Before the public) activated these deaths at this time.

I've also noticed that all 3 celebrities had major Sun-Pluto aspects in their charts. 2 of these charts included the Moon in the aspect as well. The current sky was mirroring major aspects in their natal charts.

Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett both passed away on June 25, 2009 within a few hours of each other in the morning. (Interesting that the genius who made famous a dance called the Moon Walk passed away perhaps as the result of a New Moon in Cancer).

Ed McMahon passed away on June 23, 2009 shortly after midnight. All 3 died in Los Angeles, CA and McMahon and Jackson died at the same hospital.

Michael Jackson had a Sun-Pluto conjunction in Virgo at 6 degrees which opposed his Moon.

Farrah Fawcett had natal Sun at 14 Aquarius opposing Pluto that also involved an opposition of Mars and Saturn. Her 8th House Sun was also involved in a huge Kite Pattern with Pluto, Uranus and Neptune. Pretty amazing chart.

Ed McMahon had a Water Grand Trine of Sun at 16 Pisces and Pluto with his Moon.

One can see that transiting Saturn was also involved in two of the charts as it was in conjunction with Jackson's Sun and opposing McMahon's Sun.

So, here we had Sun-Pluto people passing away during an opposition of Sun and Pluto.

Pluto, of course, rules the House of Death. This is generally not interpreted as literal death, although it can obviously. All three of these people died while their lives were in great distress, a very Plutonian hallmark. Both McMahon and Jackson had major financial debt (Pluto's realm). Fawcett's son is currently in jail for problems related to his drug addiction. She did pass from a cancer which is ruled by Pluto (Anal Cancer).

Along with great problems, Pluto rules many great attributes. Pluto also rules great Fame. In conjunction with the Sun which rules the Limelight its powers are heightened. One can see an interesting conflict here, though, in how these two powers work. In many lives this won't make a difference, but these people were celebrities, the thing which both rulers crave the most in life probably.

One can also see the struggle between the Sun and Pluto described in their lives. Both Sun and Pluto want to be prominent but they want it completely opposite ways. The Sun wants to be out shining under the spotlight and Pluto wants to be in the background in the shadows. Michael Jackson seemed to have shown this struggle most prominently as he encouraged his fans into almost psychotic fevers with his eccentric behaviors and yet had been unable to manage his reaction to all that attention and the power struggles with the parasitism. Ed McMahon played Johnny Carson's sidekick. He was probably most comfortable in that job. That works with his Grand Trine. The Grand Trine might also show that he let his finances get out of control, he was just so used to sitting back and letting things happen for him.

Farrah Fawcett showed great Plutonian depth and grit. She took herself off the bimbo poster girl circuit by leaving the series Charlies' Angels in order to portray more intense dramatic roles, often related to crime (very Plutonian). Younger people won't have a clue how popular she was. In college my roommate and I dutifully woke up early and wrapped our hair in curling irons in imitation of Fawcett's famous blown away locks.

Pluto also rules anything that is deep under the ground and it also rules Research. The United States broke ground last week on a new Science lab which is hailed at the deepest underground laboratory in the World. Very Plutonian. The Lab is being built out of an old Gold Mine (Sun) in or near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Groundbreaking was on June 22, 2009. Once again, one can see that Death isn't the only interpretation for Pluto. In interpretations, though, one can't mention this as Death is a taboo topic in our culture. Taboo = Pluto, weirdo planet, for sure, no wonder the astronomers want to demote it.

I suppose the extra Saturn transit added an extra stress. The idea that when it's your time, it's your time (Saturn keyword) along with Saturn's usual restriction and exhaustion tendencies. And there are probably a bunch of other transits, progressions, etc. I know there are probably multiple brilliant interpretations out there right now. I just wanted to add this one in case no one else has.

Birth and Death

No, this blog won't be some expose on the movies of Woody Allen. I just had a thought about yesterday's blog. The book that I'm looking at these days on the Body Clock. One of the bits of info I picked up on in yesterday's blog entry was that the most common time of day to die is around 6 am. That's vaguely around the time that the Sun Rises over the Ascendant.

While I was reading that Statistic I assumed, probably the way that most Doctors do, that the shock of waking up puts the extra added stress on the body and shocks the system, overloads the circuits, and turns the whole contraption off. Good Bye.

Then I remembered hearing from Astrologers that the Ascendant often describes the conditions of one's physical birth. Connection with physical death is just really interesting. And, while time marches on with the Sun rising over the Ascendant, the planets in the birth chart will progress in the opposite direction, counterclockwise. Is life a constant psychological progression of swimming up a stream against the natural flow of the current? Sure does feel like it.

The Ascendant represents the beginning of the Astrological Cycle just as it represents Spring, the beginnings of the Seasonal Cycle. It also represents the ending of the chart. Talk about a tough transition to make.

Cole Porter wrote about all this in his song: "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye."

Everytime we say goodbye, I die a little,
Everytime we say goodbye, I
wonder why a little,
Why the gods above me, who must be in the know.
Think
so little of me, they allow you to go.
When youre near, theres such an air of
spring about it,
I can hear a lark somewhere, begin to sing about
it,
Theres no love song finer, but how strange the change from major
to
Minor,
Everytime we say goodbye.

Birthing is also represented by Cancer and the IC which represents the egg.
Scorpio and the 8th House. Very interesting that those houses are associated with Death also. The 1st House just represents the physical body part of Death.

(Interesting to look at Cole Porter's chart with regards to his Ascendant. He was a Double Gemini with a Cancer Moon. His Sun was conjunct the Ascendant from the 1st House while a conjunction of Neptune-Pluto was conjunct the Ascendant from the 12th House. So the midpoint between Sun and Neptune-Pluto would have been very close to his Ascendant. Also, in 1944 when he wrote "Evry time we say good-bye" Uranus was transiting over Neptune-Pluto. )

Evelyn McHale Suicide

Jason Kottke ran a photo on his blog of a woman who was photographed just moments after falling to her death from off of the Empire State Building in 1947. As strange as this sounds the photograph is so beautiful (and the fact that the time and date of the incident are listed) I had to look at the astrology. She landed on a limousine which is completely smashed in but she seems to just be lying there. (http://www.kottke.org/08/07/the-most-beautiful-suicide)

Because of the beauty of the woman in her death and the fact that she was photographed I was very interested in knowing how Neptune is placed in the chart. Once again, apologize that I still can't just add the chart so people can see for themselves. I guess I'm writing this just as there is a Full Moon crossing the Ascendant/Descendant Axis -- creepy -- I don't know the victim's birth date.

Evelyn McHale, Suicide

May 1, 1947 10:40 am New York City (she fell onto a limousine parked by the Empire State Building)

Sun 11 Taurus; 23 Cancer Rising; Moon 28 Virgo; MC 6 Aries; NN 3 Gemini

I suppose one would expect a strong vertical emphasis in the chart since Ms. McHale jumped off the Empire State Building which was probably the World's tallest building at the time. Venus (women) is conjunct the Aries Midheaven opposing Neptune which is conjunct the IC (endings/beginnings) in Libra. I suppose this accounts for the beautiful landing. Kottke shows some prints that Andy Warhol made from the photograph.

There are many indicators showing a tragic Death at this moment. I wonder how on earth everyone else in New York on that day managed to survive.
  • Neptune conjunct the IC opposing both Venus and Mars on the Angles. Venus and Mars rule the IC and MC.
  • Saturn and Pluto (tragedy, depression, destruction) in Leo (drama) in the 1st House trines Mars (violence) and Venus (Love relationship gone wrong, Ms. McHale had just broken up with her boyfriend).
  • Sun squares Pluto (death and also Fame) and opposes Chiron in Scorpio.
  • Jupiter Rx in Scorpio is a singleton in Water. Is a dark placement for Jupiter. Jupiter w/Pluto could indicate fame in death. Ms. McHale was 23 years old so she may have been going through a Jupiter Return. (one of my 1st blog entries was about Denice Denton who had Jupiter in Scorpio and committed Suicide by jumping from a high rise).
  • Uranus, ruler of the 8th House (Death) indicates a sudden shocking event. Uranus itself is conjunct the 12th House cusp to the degree.
  • Most of the planets are on the left side of the chart.
  • Moon (woman, emotion) rules the Chart. Is placed in the 3d House (landing on automobile).
