Brooksley Born

Back in 1996 President Clinton did a very great thing. The President appointed a lawyer named Brooksley Born to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Problem is, he didn't listen to what Ms. Born was warning against which was all the financial bubbles which we have since popped. Born has strong earth content in her chart so she's a good one to give a reality check. I suppose one would want to be in the mood for a reality check, though, in order to take advantage of the situation.

Sun 5 Virgo; Moon Gemini or Cancer; NN 13 Libra Rx

There are a whole bunch of reasons why nobody took Born's warnings seriously. For one she's a native Californian and I figure that always knocks one's believability down a notch on the East Coast. Her name is also kind of fun, so maybe they thought she was a Disney cartoon. Also, and oops about this but Brooksley Born is a woman.

Seriously on an Astrological scale: Born has no oppositions in her chart. This is often thought to indicate that an individual doesn't have the inner sense of how to engage others in confrontation.

Brooksley Born is a Virgo and they're also not necessarily confrontational. They just say things straight from the hip and let the chips fall where they may. The Sun-Mars conjunction in Virgo in Born's chart shows a person with great analytical abilities but perhaps which comes across as impulsive or pre-what, what's the word I'm looking for, nobody's ready to hear it. Born has Mercury in Leo, which can come across as too much bravado especially in a woman and Mercury here is squaring Uranus which explains more mental acuity and intuition. The Sun-Mars conjunction, except for the out of sign connection with Mercury is unaspected to other planets. This gives the sense that the energy has trouble hooking up other energies in the chart and comes across as out of sync. Perhaps she came off as being too alarming at the time.

Born also has a tight one degree conjunction of Saturn 15 Taurus Rx to Jupiter 16 Taurus. Jupiter and Saturn conjunctions represent one of the most studied planetary cycles especially in connection with politics. They are in conjunction with each other every 20 years. Taurus is the sign of money and banking and Jupiter-Saturn aspects can show where social awareness occurs within each generation.

It just so happens that there was another Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Taurus in 1999-2000 which sort of marked the peak of the first of the financial bubbles. So she and people born within a few months of her would have been hooked into this year very strongly on a psychic level (and material as well apparently).

Born also has Uranus at 27 Taurus so 3 of her outer planets are in that sign. Her generation was meant to go through something connected with Taurus' rulerships, of money, banking, possessions, self worth, material world. Uranus represents rebellions and shocks and surprises.

Looking at Saturn in this chart one sees why (now that it's afterthefact, of course) Born would be the one to give off the warning for her generation. Saturn rules caution and all warnings. Saturn also rules an excellent sense of timing. Saturn in this chart is heavily emphasized because it was Stationing Retrograde in Taurus on the day she was born.

Saturn is also the Lead Planet of the bowl shaped chart. Bowl shaped charts have all planets on one side. Spiritually this is supposed to mean that the person is aware of the fact that they are missing their other half. In this case it could account for Born's hyper awareness, especially of her generation's faults.

Or because of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction she was speaking out on behalf of her entire generation. The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in this chart is unaspected by major aspect to other planets which means that it stands out in some way. That could be why no one paid attention, not the pessimists (Saturn). Not the optimists (Jupiter). Not the Democrats (Saturn). Not the Republicans (Jupiter). (I may have the parties turned around, whatever at this point).

A person with a Sun-Mercury-Mars conjunction is also going to be the type who will give off an alarm as they will want to communicate. Sun-Mars will be the first to enter the room. This impulsiveness is perhaps the problem. Perhaps Born needed to prepare and plan for her announcement so that it would be believable, as stupid as that sounds.

So, Born's chart contains many indicators for why no one would have listened to her at the time. No oppositions (show relationship, harmony, balance). Bowl shaped chart. Lots of Islands. Saturn Rx. Low key earth personality, especially with Virgo Sun.

I was curious to see what Chiron is doing in Born's chart as Chiron is known as the wounded healer. It usually shows where we can't seem to fix a problem. Chiron is at 28 Cancer and in conjunction with Pluto 4 Leo. The connection over the Cancer-Leo cusp could perhaps just show that she represented a bridge between one way of thinking and another. Pluto brings Fame. It also brings Crises and, of course, is connected with Financial Crises as it rules all dealings with other peoples' money. Cancer represents emotional security. Leo represents risk taking and fun. They thought she was just being a spoilsport. She also has Lilith in conjunction with her South Node in Aries which shows some sort of rejection coming into her destiny from a spiritual element. She was appointed to her post during a Nodal Return(18.9 year cycle) in Libra. Libra NN has lessons to learn about diplomacy and how frustrating people are to deal with.

Born's progressed Sun was squaring this conjunction during her appointment at the Federal Trade Commission so it was really coming out. It was at 4 Scorpio squaring natal Pluto within a degree in 2001 so her Warnings came true at that time.

It's important to realize that in 1996 when Born gave her warning Pluto had just moved into Sagittarius, Saturn had just moved into Aries. That's a lot of Fire and fire represents enthusiasm. There was a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction at the end of Capricorn so Clinton was being torn apart by the Republicans for all kinds of bull shit reasons. This would have been a huge opposition for Born because it was still within conjunction with Uranus at the beginning of Aquarius and this would have opposed her natal Pluto-Chiron.

Jonathan saffron foer's childhood

Hi. I'm ting on an iPad. I with the spell check. So. Boohoo. This post will be even more unreadable than the others.

Jonathan saffron fore is a wunderkind novelist. I've never read anything he's written but always wanted to. Pluto in Sagittarius made my reading list so long I'll never catch up.

Heard foer's younger brother interviewed on NPR in the car, driving. I was driving. NPR was in the radio. I can't go back and edit. Takes forever for iPad to catch on which word I'm pointing at,bad circulation and cold fingers.

Turns out the are 3 boys in the fore familyand they're all geniuses. Wikipedia says something about fore which shows really interesting planetary cycle development in childhood so that's what I'm trying to explain here. Too bad my mother didn't procreate with the fore oys'father or grandfather, I could write better.

Isn't that weird how spell check knows to capitalize Aries but not libra?

Fore had a freak accident in the chemistry lab when he was 8. He said he was messed up for 3 years after that. This is described perfectly by his astrology chart and the child development phases as described by the planetary return cycles of childhood. 8year olds are mostly under the influence of Saturn because this is roughly the time of the first square that Saturn makes to it's natal spot. Satrun rules father, discipline, etc. It also hacve trouble dealing with failure. It also represents empirical science. Fore's natal Saturn is at 12 Leo. It's a very strongly placed planet in his chart. You can sort of sense that fore gets performance anxiety but is also very driven to succeed. Since he has natal sun in Pisces inspected to other planets y,ou can sort of also sense that a hit from Saturn would constantly pull him towards Leo style self expression. Saturn I. This chart is involved in a lot of major aspects, t-square with Uranus and mars. Grand trine with neptune-Venus-maybe moon which also turns into a house configuration with more planets, merc and mars, and with apex Neptune in Sagittarius. So his first Saturn square set off all those lights.

Physically Saturn rules the bonesand skin. Boundaries. The wiki articles says, and this won't be a dire t quote: for 3years "he wanted nothing except to be outside his own skin.". How's that for describing a difficult reaction to a satrun grant trine, especially with Neptune and Venus and maybe moon?

He spent the next 3years in some sort of turmoil and was then released. Interesting that 3years later he would have been going through his first Jupiter return. This is the first outer planet retrun and symbolizes end of childhood. Like his sun, fore's Jupiter is inspected so it doesn't flow with the rest of the planets. It's at 24 Taurus. Jupiter rules higher learning, opinions. It's connected with publishing and writing. Taurus is connected with writing as it rules the development of the alphabet, historically.

Coldest Day on Record

According to the current issue of New Scientist Magazine (Jan. 9, 2010 issue, p. 17) the coldest known recorded temperature taken on Earth was taken down at VOSTOK Station in Antartica on July 21, 1983.

That's the middle of Winter down at the South Pole. The thermostat logged a -89.2 C temperature.

I don't know what poor schmuck would have been down there taking the temperature in this climate but apparently the reason for extreme temperature was a "near stationary atmospheric vortex."

The weather sort of froze into a vortex.

This is a great way to understand a Saturn-Pluto conjunction. I suspect that, working together, they rule Time and Stillness and slow motion. I looked at the chart of the physicist a long time ago on this blog who had developed the Atomic Clock, the most precise timing device. If I remember correctly his Sun was in strong aspect with both of these planets so he could truly utilize their gifts.

The Sun in this chart is aspecting the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in an out of sign square.

The Saturn-Pluto conjunction wasn't working alone. There was another big outer planet conjunction of Jupiter to Uranus in Sagittarius. This means that Jupiter was in its own sign and as we've just experienced the extreme nature of this transit (this time it passed over Pluto which caused the big financial crisis). This Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is also in aspect to the Sun through a trine. Again, this is an out-of-sign trine. So there is a very strange working together of energies that are somewhat extreme due to the placement of so many planets at the ends and beginnings of signs.

Interesting that there were so many planets in the fire sign of Sagittarius since Fire is hot. But the other outer planet Neptune was at 28 Sagittarius which would have been close to the Galactic Center. And the Moon was probably close to that spot as well. The Nodal Axis was also along this point at 24 Gemini/Sagittarius with a Gemini North Node. The Sun is also in aspect with Neptune through an inconjunct.

While the Outer Planets were in strong aspect with each other and the Sun and Nodes and possibly the Moon, the other inner planets were sort of isolated.

Venus was a singleton in Earth in Virgo.

Mercury and Mars were both unaspected by major aspect. Mercury was a singleton in Fixed Signs. Mars is lead planet of a bowl formation with the other boundary planet being Neptune (and the Galactic Center). And all the planets are also held with the Nodal Axis.

Isn't this the Summer that they figured out what AIDS was?

3:00 PM Meeting With Henry Paulson

According to some articles I've read in the newspaper, on Monday at 3pm, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson called Bankers from the top 9 Banks in the Country and "forced" them to sell Bank Stock to the Government. This is considered "UnAmerican, but necessary." (Kind of strange how Republicans are anti-socialist but keep using Government to control people.) Down the road, the Banks will buy their stock back.

I was amazed at how this represents what I was talking about in my blog entry from Sunday/Monday where I noticed that Mars and Pluto have been unaspected. I wondered if this would represent an act of sheer human will. It looks like it panned out. I also made a mistake and said that Pluto would be unaspected. I was wrong there. At 3 pm on Monday, October 13, Pluto was very much aspected as apex of a t-square. I also noticed that Henry Paulson's chart is lit up like a Christmas Tree (does he celebrate Christmas, he's into Banking, they'll celebrate any holiday).

The Stock Market has been unbelievably volatile and had a major advance on Monday, almost a 1000 points, and has since fallen by just about as much. The Banking sector yesterday suffered a double digit decline yesterday but today did very well. The entire market ended 400 points up. Don't know who the major nine banks are. Bank of New York Mellon is the first to sell off its stock.

Don't think it's one of the "Big Nine" but by accident I pulled up "The Bank of the Ozarks." That stock was the stock to own today. Stock went up about 2 points, gain of 8.5 percent. The little banks' stocks seem to have gone way up. Citigroup went down.

First of all, I wanted to look at the 3 pm chart to see where Mars and Pluto, the planets associated with Force and Will would be. Mars was unaspected in this chart and up in the 9th House, just having passed over the Midheaven (Government). Pluto was in the 11th House and apex to a t-square of Moon 7 Aries opposing Mercury 8 Libra Rx in the H2 (Banking) and H8 (Investments).

Venus (Banking) in Scorpio is almost exactly conjunct the Midheaven in Scorpio (Other people's money). She is squaring the ruler of the 2d House cusp, Neptune which is in the 1st House.

Aquarius is rising and the Signs representing Resources are on all of the angles. The Ruler of the chart, Uranus, is conjunct the 2d House cusp. It is opposing Saturn in the 8th. This is a very interesting event to attribute to the Saturn-Uranus opposition.

Large Hadron Collider

ADDITION/CORRECTION TO ORIGINAL:

Start time for the Collider is 10:28 am Local Time (Geneva, Switzerland). This is a much nicer chart than the ones I looked at. 25 Libra is Rising. Ruler of the Chart, Venus is in her own sign of Libra (H12). She is conjunct Mercury and Mars. They trine the North Node-Neptune conjunction in Aquarius (H4) and square the Moon-Jupiter conjunction in Capricorn (H3). With Neptune being the only outer planet placed on an angle and the Chart ruler in the 12th House, the Mysteries of the Universe might really be solved. The Big Bang Aspect of Sun opposing Uranus is placed off the Angles. Pluto is still unaspected to any planets down in the 3d House but is in aspect to both ASC and MC. Both Jupiter and Pluto stationed Direct yesterday so they are assured of a long life without suffering any Retrogrades by Progression.

They're calling it the Big Bang Machine. The Swiss have built a 17 mile wide tunnel under the ground somewhere outside of Geneva and hope to answer the great mysteries of the Universe with it. I hope they don't knock the Clocks out of whack, or worst yet, harm Our Astrodienst Folks and Free Online Computer Software in any way.

Other than this I don't have a clue what the thing does. It's called a Large Hadron Collider and this is what it's proposing to do:

"LHC experiments will address questions such as what gives matter its mass, what the invisible 96 percent of the Universe is made of, why nature prefers matter to antimatter and how matter evolved from the first instants of the Universe's existence."

I probably don't have the time right for when they're flipping the switch but the website says that a live Webcast will play at 8:30pm. I initially tried to count the time out by myself and got hopelessly lost in time zones but came up with a really cool chart fro 3:30pm that has a Galactic Center-Pluto Sagittarius Ascendant. Still exceptional, though, with this chart is that the 3 Outermost planets will be Singletons: Uranus in Water, Neptune in Fixed, Pluto in Fire.

With this 8:30 am chart Pluto is conjunct a 4 Capricorn Midheaven from the 9th House so still connected with an angle. There's a tight conjunction of Mercury-Venus-Mars at 14-15 Libra that's conjunct the Descendant. While the Outer Planets aren't working in cohoots with anybody the Inner Planets are colluding in a huddle on an Angle (and disposing to Venus as they ought to). That's got to say something about Scale. I think they're going to try to study Infinity through Minutae. The Outer Planets through the Inner Planets.

Mars rules this 8:30 pm chart (assuming the time is correct). That's pretty impressive for something called a Big Bang Machine.

Although this is the first run of the Collider, it won't be officially open until Oct. 21. Between that time Mercury will go retrograde so will hold close to this spot for a very long time. Astrologers aren't real fond of Mercury Rx. I believe that I read that this "machine" is its own prototype so there's a chance that there might be a couple of snags along the way in learning how to use it.

The Virgo Sun (H6) will be opposing Uranus (12) and conjunct Saturn (h6) (Saturn & Uranus not in aspect). That sounds like a great set-up for a Particle Blaster. Saturn in Virgo is a great one for the Sciences and Uranus always likes a new whirligig. 17 miles, wow, that's huge. I keep getting it confused with 17 Mile Drive down in the Monterey area, one of the most beautiful drives on earth.

Around the Neighborhood with Marie & Pierre Curie

Great people are not known for success in household matters so it makes sense that Marie Curie wasn't real attentive as a Mother. She had bigger Fish to fry. Well, turns out frying the fish wasn't all she did. She was tracking radiation all over the house. She had no idea what the stuff really was.

Her daughter, Eve Curie recently passed away. Eve was known for writing a biography of her Mother. Her Obituary described how she felt guilty that she had somehow been spared an early death by radiation poisoning the way the rest of her family had. Boy, that's a Unique Experience. One wonders if she had Aquarius on the IC or Uranus stuck therein. Both her Mother and Sister, Irene, had died from exposure and it is thought that Pierre Curie would have also suffered from poisoning had he not been killed in a traffic accident. I apologize. This blog will be silly but I grew up in a community with a lot of scientists and many were my friend's parents. I never had a sense that things would be alright in people's personal lives because of it. The rules were always different, the conversations were always about odd but interesting subjects, and the expectations were always really really high. So this is why when I read that Obituary I wondered, Wow, is there an indicator for a Mom who will accidentally radiate her kids? As a kid growing up around these people, I know that these are the things that children of great people have to wonder these things on a day to day basis.

I know there are many intelligent presentations of the Curies' charts out there. (I found this one for Marie written by Michael D. Robbins: http://www.makara.us/04mdr/01writing/03tg/bios/Curie.htm.) It includes a copy of Marie Curie's chart which is visually astonishing because Uranus is conjunct her Descendant and is apex to a small triangle, a Kite, a Thor's Hammer. It's by no accident that this quadruple Scorpio would work tirelessly with her Husband to isolate Uranium.

But, back to the Domestic Situation. Marie Curie worked all the time. Eve said that she almost didn't know her mother until she had to care for her while she was dying. The Curies worked out in a shed with no protection from Uranium. Marie and Eve's older Sister, Irene, who also became a Nobel Prize winning Chemist, used x-ray machines in the first World War without protection. The whole house probably glowed. Have you ever seen that Kitchen by the artist Liza Lou? It's completely covered in little sparkling seed beads. That's how I imagine Marie Curie's kitchen to look. That makes for some nasty gingerbread, let me tell ya.

Sun 15 Scorpio; Moon 17 Pisces; 13 Capricorn Rising; MC 18 Scorpio; NN 11 Virgo

Marie Curie was born 4 planets in Scorpio. Her Sun in Scorpio was opposite Pluto in Taurus. This opposition was conjunct her MC-IC axis with Pluto conjunct the 4th House cusp. That right there shows a toxic household environment somehow related to the career. But this isn't just anybody's house. This is Marie Curie's house. And so what? All career women have to let the household go. This Sun-Pluto opposition was involved in a Mystic Rectangle and a house configuration that includes the Uranus-Descendant. I talked about Uranus's importance in her chart up above. Marie Curie's house was the, you guessed it, Outer Limits. Both of her daughters shared her Sun-Pluto aspect. Irene had a Square between the two planets. Eve shared the opposition.

Irene was born on her Mother's Saturn Return. She was a Scientist who won the Nobel Prize along with her husband, just like her Mother. She died from Radiation poisoning like her Mother.

Eve Curie was born on her Mother's Nodal Return when her Mother was 37. Her Father was killed in a traffic accident 2 years after she was born. Her Sun-Pluto opposition squared her Nodal Axis.

Both Marie and Pierre Curie were strong Fixed Sign people. Their Daughters both were Mutable Sign Suns. I'm listing some of this now just because it interests me. This would be a very interesting family to read after having read Erin Sullivan's book on Family Dynamics.

Pierre Curie died on Apr. 19, 1906. I'm sure the time of his death is listed somewhere but I don't have it. The whole day Pluto was unaspected at 22 Gemini. That gives off a bit of an "uh oh" sensation but alone it means nothing. Thing is, it was conjunct Pierre's natal Mars at 14 Gemini which was also unaspect. Mars, during most of the day, was also unaspected (except for a semi-square to Uranus) at 24 Taurus. This is conjunct Pierre's 25 Taurus Sun squaring his Nodes. Somebody really needs to reel these damn scientists back into an astrology practice. Unaspected planets become much more potent because they have no strong relationship with the other planets and can't share the energy. Pluto rules Death. Nodes rule Fate. Mars rules the Head. Sun rules the life force. Mars and Uranus in difficult aspect rule accidents. Curie was run over by a horse carriage and suffered fatal injuries to his head (Mars).

Cram It Clown!

Here's a quote about the Urban, or "Suburban myth," that seeded in my generation. This is a true Pluto in Virgo generation myth:

A child playing Bozo Buckets reputedly accompanied a missed shot with a choice swear word. To which Bozo replied, "That's a Bozo No-no." To which the child then reportedly responded, "Aw, cram it, Clownie!"

Critical, caustic, realistic, and cynical. Born that way almost immediately after evacuation from the womb. Alas! We are the era that killed off the Clown.

When I was growing up, this story was huge. I actually remember my big brother pointing to one of the wild skateboarder boys at school and saying, "They say he's the one that told Bozo to cram it." And we snickered and we sniggled and our little childhood fangs grew another millimeter long. From the mouths of babes....

And when you look at the astrology of the long line of Bozo's who became syndicated and franchised and McDonaldized you realize how this came to be. Yessiree, it was a kid's world. A diet of Instant Breakfast, Tang, Cheez Wiz, Triscuits and TV Dinners and off to beat up the Clown at the TV Station we go.

Pinto Colvig
b. Sept. 11, 1892 Jacksonville, Oregon.

Sun 20 Virgo; Moon Taurus or Gemini; NN 10 Taurus

Pinto was an actor. Originally the voice of Pluto in the Disney animations, he cut some records with the clown suit on in 1946. "Bozo's Circus" was aired on Friday nights starting in 1949. Pinto had both unaspected Sun and Rx Jupiter, aspects that totally befit a Clown. He was born during the Gemini conjunction of Neptune to Pluto, as befits a Clown. And he had a t-square of Uranus-Mars and Venus with apex Uranus in Taurus conjunct his North Node.

Pinto's Son took over as Bozo on the first TV Show on Jan. 5, 1959. He was a Pisces and the show started just as Pluto was making its first baby steps into Virgo:

Vance Colvig, Jr.
b. March 9, 1918 San Francisco, CA

Sun 19 Pisces; Moon Capricorn or Aquarius; NN 28 Sagittarius

Vance had a Sun-Mercury conjunction in Pisces that was Unaspected. His Uranus in Aquarius was also Unaspected. It takes a lot of Unaspected energy to become a Clown, I guess. Vance was voice of Goofy in the Disney Animations. He looks to be a bit darker version of a Bozo. He had a t-square of Pluto-Mars and Chiron aspecting his North Node in Sagittarius. You can see how the planets seem to be ganging up on him and maybe he felt over-shadowed by his Father.

It is very interesting that Vance's (Bozo #2) unaspected Sun opposed his Father's (Bozo #1) Sun. At any rate, Vance gave up his Clown Suit in 1964. This was right before Saturn hit his Sun and opposed the Uranus-Pluto conjunction that was forming in Virgo. Mid-60s is when "they who know" guess that the foul-mouthed kid made his miracle 1960's appearance. The shows were shot live and apparently the tapes weren't kept. Nobody is saying which Bozo was the Victim. I hope it wasn't Vance.

At any rate, there was another Bozo in Chicago who claimed that he was the best Bozo of All Time (competitive).

Bob Bell
b. Jan. 18, 1922 Flint, Michigan

Sun 28 Capricorn; Moon Libra; NN 12 Libra

His Sun is in Capricorn conjunct Venus, and, you guessed it, unaspected. Wow. What a Bozo. He wasn't competitive so much as Vain. And his Sun is widely conjunct the Show's Sun so no wonder he felt that he embodied the best Bozo.

The Chicagoans really liked Bozo but even they had to put him to rest. The last Bozo show aired there on June 12, 2001. The Saturn-Pluto opposition was widely forming at that time indicating a loss of some kind. An interesting aspect is that this is close to the time of the Uranus Opposition for the Bozo Show. The natal Uranus was in Leo. In 2001, T.Uranus was in Aquarius (in its own sign) and conjunct the original show's progressed Sun as well.

Eliel and Eero Saarinen

This was supposed to be a study of the Gateway Arch, a Memorial built in St. Louis, Missouri, officially called the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. I drove across the country a few years ago and one of the high points of my trip was seeing this elegant Monument which was built as a link between the Eastern and Western parts of the United States. It was built near the spot where Lewis & Clark started their expedition to explore the Western half of the United States and Saarinen designed it so that it would look like it was soaring. I managed to find a hotel room with a view onto the Arch and sat for hours watching the changing lights of the Sun setting all around it.

I started out by looking at the chart of the architect who designed the Arch, Eero Saarinen, and then out of curiosity looked at the chart of his Father, Eliel, who was also a brilliant Architect, and found the strangest Astro story. The family immigrated to the United States from Finland in 1923. Here are their Birth Dates:

Sun 27 Leo; Moon Cancer or Leo; NN. 19 Taurus

Right off the Bat you can see that Eero the Son was born on his Father's Solar Return and also on his Nodal Return. Both men's Suns square their Nodal Axis. When Eero was born, Eliel's progressed Venus was conjunct their Suns. Eero may also have had an opposition of Aquarius Moon to the Leo Sun which expands his t-square out into a Grand Square.

Both Father and Son share unaspected Jupiter and Chiron as well. Eliel the Father also had natal unaspected Venus in Cancer and Uranus in Leo. I assume that with birth times these planets would show up as aspecting the angles since their careers were so successful. Both Father and Son had Saturn Retrograde which seems very appropriate for Architects since Saturn has to do with Structure. But also makes me wonder what their relationship was like with each other. Eero worked with his Father but soon branched out on his own.

Comparing these two charts, it's almost as if the sky were saying that it would take two generations to complete the message that Nature had in mind. The only other thing I'll mention is that Eero's Uranus, while not unaspected, is very prominently aspected in his chart. It's located in Capricorn and involved in an opposition to Neptune in Cancer so it represents a generational influence that was able to use conventional engineering techniques and boundaries represented by the material known world to create new forms that basically exploit the previously known boundaries. (Whew, I'm going to leave that sentence there but you don't really have to try to read it). In short, he was able to work great technological advances while achieving extreme beauty (Venus in Leo, Mercury and Mars in Virgo).

The Arch was designed by Eero (the Son) for a competition in 1947. Ground wasn't broken until Feb. 12, 1963 (completed Oct. 28, 1965) and it was dedicated Dec. 21, 1965. Eero, however, had developed a brain tumor and had died in surgery on Sept. 1, 1961. The Arch was completed by his Partners. His transits at time of death were very precise.

• Uranus was conjunct the North Node conjunct his Sun all at 27 Leo.
  
• T. Saturn was at 22 Capricorn conjunct his Neptune at 21 Cancer opposing Uranus.
  
• His Progressed Sun and prog. Mars were both conjunct his natal Jupiter (Unaspected in Chart).
  
• Also, he was having his Chiron Return in Pisces (Unaspected in Chart).
• T. Pluto was at 9 Virgo conjunct n. Mars at 10 Virgo.
  

The Mars-Pluto contacts plus Uranus seem to indicate a Brain Tumor to me but I'm certainly not a pro at Medical Astrology. I wonder if the fact that his Progressed Mercury had just Retrograded back into Virgo, sign indicating Health ruled by Mercury which rules the thinking processes, is also significant. It would help to know the rulers of his 12th and 1st houses to talk about any further.

On the day that Eero died, Eliel's chart was totally in sync his own chart, it seems in almost a jealous kind of way. His Progressed Sun and prog. Mars were conjunct at 25 Scorpio conjunct his Son's South Node in Scorpio. Natally, Eliel (the Father) had a conjunction of Pluto with his North Node. (Remember they both had the same Nodal Axis.) This was squaring both men's Suns plus the Uranus-Node transit. In addition, Eliel's Pluto was passing over his son's natal Jupiter. Of course, we'll never know the nature of their relationship, but it seems that this Arch was more of a Gateway to Heaven than a Gateway out West.

(And as a matter of fact I just found this on Wikipedia: "When Saarinen won the competition, the official notification was sent to "E. Saarinen", thinking it to be the architect's father Eliel Saarinen, who had also submitted an entry. The family celebrated with a bottle of champagne, and two hours later an embarrassed official called to say the winner was, in fact, the younger Saarinen. The elder Saarinen then broke out a second bottle of champagne to celebrate his son's success."). Both men were having their Nodal Returns in 1947 which indicates some sort of Fated occurence which they both share. I remember reading that Nodes on the Taurus/Scorpio axis are often the most difficult to deal with as the Soul has tough lessons to learn about materialistic gain in the world. Competition with one's family members can be especially tricky as one is bound to them through blood.
