Ursus Wehrli

The idea of cleanliness and order do not go hand in hand with the traditional modern idea of creating art. (I know, traditional and modern are not supposed to go together to describe the same thing, but we are in a time of transition right now).

A new artist gives us a new slant, however.

Swiss photographer and comedian and performance artist Ursus Wehrli has published a new book in which he photographs old art cleaned up and set up to look orderly.

I was hoping things would line up perfectly in a Virgonian kind of way and Wehrli would turn out to be a Virgo, the sign most connected with cleanliness and obsessive compulsive disorder. Well, he's just coming off of a 30 year progression through that sign, so I was close.

If the date I've found is correct Wehrli turns out to be a Leo Sunp maybe even was born on a Leo New Moon. That means that he's more of an artist than anything else. Leo is the creative sign. Photography can't exist without light and who provides better light than a person with his Sun in the sign which it rules?

Ursus Wehrli
b. maybe August 13, 1969

Sun 21 Leo; Moon Leo; NN 23 Pisces

Wehrli's natal chart is more telling. He was born in 1969 just after the big conjunction of Uranus-Pluto in Virgo. But his Virgo in this chart, assuming the date is correct, shows Pluto within one degree conjunction of the Virgo South Node. Pluto is the other ruler of obsessive compulsive disorder. This guy is channeling one wiggy past life right now.

Check it out. This guy was born to make all of us want to be obsessive compulsives. Throw out the meds and join the party.

Wehrli's progressed chart is really incredible for showing big changes going on in his life right now, possibly connected with achieving Fame. Three of his planets have changed signs by progression (secondary).

His progressed Sun is on the AP at 2 Libra so it's just spent the last 30 years dealing with public hygiene-organizational compulsions issues in the sign of Virgo. This great gift is coming to the public attention on the Aries Point.

His progressed Venus has just moved in to the sign of Virgo at 2 degrees. So his art (Venus) is all about things Virgonian. Cleanliness is just the punchbowl at the beginning of the party. This guy is probably going to get totally John Cagian on us, maybe a little Buddha party as well.

Progressed Mars (creative spark, self will) is at 3 Capricorn, also just past the Aries Point. That's seriously good for career.

And his progressed Mercury (communication style) is at 12 Libra and went Rx back around 2003-4 or so. He's thinking and rethinking how to mediate what is balance and harmony.

Dakota Meyer at the Bridge

Back in college I decided to major in Classics for awhile. Problem with that was comprehension. The Greeks and the Romans were smart folks and I didn't really have all the brain power necessary to absorb all that creativity. From all the boring penguin editions that I read from I can only remember two anecdotes.

Herodotus was actually fun (at times) even when he was talking about Generals of Armies and things. He invented the idea of History by writing down all the mythology and stories about the culture in which he lived. There was no pressure to be accurate at that point and sometimes he is called the Father of Lies for his tendency to include fabrications and fantastic stories that nobody believes.

Among the most boring historian on earth had to have been Livy who lived in ancient Rome. He was dry and long-winded and probably pretty accurate in his tellings. Livy wrote many many many many Penguin Editions. After a while I realized that it was a waste of time for me to read him because I could not remember anything he wrote. Except for one story -- that of Horatio at the Bridge.

At this point, it's about 30 years later so I've got all the details mixed up about Horatio. What I do remember is that the story of Horatio was so out of character for Livy and seemed so unreal that we all just guffawed at it in class. Where the hell did Livy get off including this unbelievable story in his assemblage of mass and accurate detail?

From what I remember Horatio was a Roman warrior who was defending a bridge, a key transport route down to Rome. He spent hours maybe days fending off a bunch of grinning blue eyed Aryans who I seem to remember had just crossed the Alps on the backs of Elephants. Hmm, maybe the elephants were part of another story about Persians, sorry. Anyway, the Aryans were big and brash, you know, basic German tourists, but in this case they were out to sack Rome so probably carrying spears and rocks. By himself Horatio killed them all, however many there were. We all laughed about how Livy must have been on acid that day. Or that he was channeling Hercules who was a myth and didn't exist. Who could believe this story?

So, where was I? Oh yeah. The War in Afghanistan.

On Thursday President Obama awarded the highest medal possible to an ex-Marine named Dakota Meyer. Dakota defied his superiors' orders because his entire group of friends were caught in battle and were calling for help. The superiors denied the help.

Certain unnamed soldiers in command will supposedly lose their rankings/jobs for incompetence demonstrated that day. Meyer and another soldier, Juan Rodriguez-Chavez, should not even have had to do what they did if their superiors had been competent. The names of these guys are left out of the articles, but I think it's important because it looks to me as if there were issues with giving proper attention to where it is due. There were mix-ups. Mercury was stationing Retrograde.

While receiving his medal Meyer said that it seems unbelievable to receive so much attention for what had been the worst day of his life. Would be interesting to see his entire chart but if the date provided on Wikipedia is true then I could see how Meyer's life could unfold in this way. I actually remember the Greek concept of kalon-kakon, situations which is both a Blessing and a curse occurring at the same time.

I don't have Rodriquez-Chavez' birthday so I'm not going to discuss his astrology. He was given the second highest award that the Navy honors its heroes along with another officer, Ademola Fabayo. I've included a link to an interview with Fabayo the day after the battle down below which explains what happened from his point of view. He provides the timing for the battle which is important astrologically.

First thing astrologers will look at here is that Mercury was stationing Retrograde at 7 Libra in the 1st house right as this battle began. Mercury rules the Virgo rising. Mercury rules communications. Retrogrades indicate a time when Mercury's motion is seen from earth as moving backwards so in traditional astrology communications are said to break down more than usual. What it means is that Mercury spends an extra long time in one sign and there's no feeling of moving forward and smoothly.

There was a Sun-Saturn conjunction almost exactly on the Ascendant. Saturn rules cautionary actions, or stoppages altogether. Saturn is so careful that often he won't help. He also rules authority and bosses.

Saturn was opposing Uranus 26 Pisces which was in the 7th House of partnerships. Pluto wasn't quite within orb of squaring either one of them but he was also angular in H4 and on the very important Aries Point at 1 Capricorn.

The outer planet t-square aspect of these 3 planets has been going in and out of orb for the last two years-plus. It is considered a very stressful, life changing configuration. Lots of divorces, lots of market crashes, lots of earthquakes and floods (especially with Uranus and Neptune where they are). Lots of the types of changes that people don't handle very well.

This t-square describes the event pretty well. Saturn represents authority. Sun represents Military. Along with the Sun represents authority in the military. Placed in Virgo there might not be great leadership. Pluto in the 4th House represents spying, espionage, betrayal, death, an environment like quicksand. Mars in Cancer during the fight just enhances this. Pluto in Saturn's sign right on the Aries point shows that there might be some destruction of military command. And then there's Uranus the Revolutionary. He's in the 7th House getting ready to defy orders in order to save his friends. The 7th House is also significant in diplomacy matters and in dealing with open enemies.

Mercury rules this chart through the Virgo Rising. Although Virgo doesn't like to lead he can often do just as much by working through the details. In this case, the soldiers had the mentality to discern that they would have to deal with the situation on their own because the leadership wasn't there. They just kept charging and charging and charging. When one jeep broke they brought in another one.

Sun 16 Virgo (H1); Moon 25 Aries (H8); ASC 15 Virgo; MC 13 Gemini; NN 28 Capricorn (H5)

I don't have the exact time that Meyer and Rodriquez-Chavez realized that they would have to act on their own. Time given is the beginning of gunfight according to the interview with Ademola Fabayo (url given at bottom). The current articles just say "before dawn."

When I read the first article about Dakota Meyer I just wanted to know what planets he's got in Scorpio. The Marines are all required to remember the birthdate of their corps which is November 10. It just seemed significant since the Marines are considered the hard core fighters who go in at the front lines. Scorpios don't necessarily like a crisis but they tend to be good at dealing with them because of their staying power.

It's pretty interesting that the only other Marine to receive this medal had the same birthday as the Marines. He was Jason Lee Dunham, born Nov. 10, 1981. He died on Apr. 22, 2004, 8 days after diving in to stick his helmet on top of a grenade to save his friends.

The story about how Dakota Meyer worked as the gunner while Rodriquez-Chavez drove the jeep is extraordinary, right out of Livy. These two ran 5 trips over a 6 hour period. Meyer jumped out of the jeep to drag the wounded back while the Taliban were shooting at them. Rodriquez-Garcia was driving the vehicle around to shield the wounded. As the gunner, Meyer was completely exposed. He killed 8 Taliban fighters, evacuated 12 wounded, provided cover for 24 Marines and soldiers (those number might not be exactly accurate).

Dakota Meyer
b. June 26, 1988 Greensburg, Kentucky (from Wiki)

Sun 6 Cancer; Moon Scorpio, Sadge if born very late at night; NN 18 Pisces

It looks as if Meyer is mostly ruled by Water with a Cancer Sun and a North Node (Life Path) in Pisces and probably a Scorpio Moon. Personally I'm amazed that with all that water he performed so well out in the middle of the desert. Maybe he really has a Fire Sagittarius Moon. The water does give him great psychic abilities to see through a situation. Maybe it made him more invisible to the enemy. Ernest Hemingway was a Cancer Sun so one sort of gets that sense in Dakota Meyer as well.

Meyer's chart is amazing to look at in connection with this event.

For one, he has Mars in conjunction with his North Node at 22 and 17 Pisces respectively. Mars is the Warrior of Astrology and the North Node represents the true direction of one's life path. They are combined here in Pisces which isn't often considered the boldest aspect for a soldier by typical Western Military standards. But Pisces has other methods. He is probably very useful in dealing with smoke screens, deception and people who rely on terrorism in order to get ahead. Mars represents speed, impulse, rashness. This squares his natal Venus Rx and Mercury in Gemini. This combines his mental and physical coordination with his basic loyalties to his comrades in a challenging but energized way.

Transiting Uranus (rebellion, groups, friends, shock, surprise, sudden events) is within conjunction with Meyer's natal Mars by 4 degrees on the day of the fight. Uranus rules one's friends and community who he was fighting (Mars) for. Also, Meyer's progressed Mars is at 2 Aries on this day. This is directly squaring not only the big outer planet t-square of the day but is also squaring a huge opposition from Sun-Chiron to SAturn-Uranus-Neptune that Meyer has in his chart right on the Aries POints (coming before the public).

Transiting Mars was also involved at 8 Cancer. So it was right over Meyer's natal Sun and opposing his natal Neptune 9 Capricorn. Pluto, the higher octave of Mars, was at 1 Capricorn opposing Mars and in conjunction with his natal Saturn-Uranus-Neptune.

His natal Sun is in conjunction with Chiron, 6 and 1 Cancer respectively, and are opposing Saturn-Uranus who are in conjunction on the same degree at 29 Sagittarius. Therefore, his natal chart, the transiting chart, and his progressed chart all meld together on the strongest points of the astrological wheel. Interesting that the conjunction of Saturn-Uranus plays out during the transiting opposition of these same planets, but this mirroring seems to happen quite a bit. Everyone born around the time that Meyer was born will have this conjunction but their inner planets might not trigger an event quite as significant.

Pluto (ruler of the Marines) is also important to look at here. Pluto is considered the higher octave of Mars and so is considered sort of a spiritual warrior. He represents the use of human will and instinct.

Meyer's natal chart has Pluto strong in its own sign of rulership at 10 Scorpio. Because Pluto spends so long in one sign this is true for everyone of his generation. Pluto is strong in his chart because it trines his natal Sun. His Sun also disposits to Pluto. And Pluto is the Lead Planet of a locomotive chart shape. (read about chart shapes at www.bobmarksastrologer.com/lessons).

There's so much more to look at here. I'm simply amazed and shocked by this story. I hope he goes on to study great ideas in College and to further learn how to use his great talents. President Obama shared a beer with him on the White House lawn and gave him some good advice to just take it slow. After the Trojan War Odysseus spent 20 years getting lost trying to make his way back home. Interesting how one must go on a second journey in order to unwind from the first journey.

The beginnings of the battle according to DianaWest.net was at 5:30 am. It seems that Dakota Meyer and Juan Rodriguez-Chavez must have defied orders after about 7:30 am at some point.

Gabrielle Giffords Shooting

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Tucson, Arizona was shot by a 22-year old man in front of a grocery store yesterday while meeting with her constituents. 19 people were injured and 6 have died as a result of the shooting. A 9-year old girl was killed as well as a well respected Judge. Giffords is alive and Doctors say she is giving good signs for recovery.

I wish Congresswoman Giffords a complete recovery and send my condolences to all the families and friends who have been victimized by this senseless act.

It's basically too early to give much of a reading, but I got curious anyway. If the birth dates I have are correct for Giffords and the shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, their basic charts show some really eerie connections.

Their Sun Signs square each other by a degree. Giffords is a Gemini Sun and Loughner is a Virgo Sun. Squares are considered challenging aspects but without the rest of the chart one can't say whether this is a bad challenge or a good one. Squares will add a lot of energy to the relation between how these two people project their Sun Energy which can mean Ego Projection, Search for spotlight, creativity. Giffords, as a Gemini Sun working in Politics is considered a moderate Democrat. Gemini's are known not to commit to one predictable path, so Giffords' sided with both gun rights law and pro-choice law. She walked two sides of the fence. I'm not sure what Loughner's problem with Giffords is exactly, but as a Virgo one can expect him to project a hyper critical stance of anyone who he feels has errors of thinking. Virgo is known for attention to detail, rather than looking at larger pictures. Both Sun Signs are ruled by the same planet, Mercury. Mercury rules aspects of cognition. In very simple terms, Gemini rules verbal communication and fine motor coordination while Virgo rules analysis of details. Both are related to the nervous system.

Another interesting connection is that both assailer and assailant share the same Nodal Axis with North Node in Pisces and South Node in Virgo. The Nodal Axis will describe Life Path and Destiny. Giffords' North Node was conjunct the ASC-Moon-Neptune-Chiron at the time of the shooting. Neptune is the Ruler of Pisces, and as such is the ruler of the entire chart and the North Nodes of both people.

The Nodal Axis is often seen (but, not always) in conjunction with the angles at the time of a significant event. Pisces is related to feelings of great empathy and sacrifice. It is also related to "losers" and "addicts." One can see how both sides of this sign which is the chart ruler is shown in this event. Loehner posted apologies asking for forgiveness before the event. That's typical of how Neptune manipulates. There's a feeling that one has to give up to chaos, and usually a projection of being a martyr of a higher purpose.

Giffords at age 40 is going through her first Neptune Square. Natal Neptune is at 30 Scorpio Rx so it is up at the top of the chart of the shooting squaring the ASC-Moon-Chiron-Neptune. As Neptune is changing signs in a few months and moving into the sign which it rules which is connected with feeling lost and hopeless and boundariless, I hope this doesn't foreshadow similar events in the future.

Loughner's Nodal Axis plays a huge role in his chart as he was born on the same day as an Annular Solar Eclipse and has both Sun and Moon conjunct his South Node. It would be interesting to see how the recent Eclipses affected these charts. Loughner has a natal conjunction of Saturn-Uranus in Sagittarius conjunct Neptune in Capricorn. This has been getting hit hard by the conjunction of Mercury-Pluto-NN and the recent Eclipse set (total Lunar on Dec. 21, something solar on Jan. 4). Loughner also has a conjunction of Lilith to the South Node.

A really interesting connection between these two are their Mars-Chiron squares which overlay each other. Giffords has natal Mars in the sign of Cancer, which is in its Fall. This is a difficult placement for Mars which is the planet that in its positive aspects gives one initiative to begin new projects. Cancer is the homebody planet which often doesn't express itself through direct behavior so there can be a problem when these two connect. Since Cancer is a receptive/reactive sign, often the initiative that one puts out will attract anger in others through indirect and emotional "vibes." (Well, i said it's problematic). On the other hand, Loehner's natal Mars is in its own sign of Aries which can give too much initiative, not enough thought to one's actions and impulse/anger control. With both in squares to their natal Chiron there can be an uncontrollable element to how the aspect plays out and together with the square aspect this can be difficult.

Loughner's Chiron 7 Cancer is conjunct Giffords' n. Mars at 5 Cancer. And, Loughner's natal Mars at 10 Aries is conjunct her Chiron at 10 Aries. Mars is connected with violence and war and impulse and rage. Loughner's natal Mars is placed very strongly in headstrong Aries. Giffords was shot in the Head (Mars/Aries) at point blank range. Chiron is an asteroid which brings in the myth of the Teacher/Healer who could fix everything except his own wounds.

The media coverage was sort of hysterical and cruel. While the shooter was aiming at Giffords other people were killed and wounded but the coverage neglected these poeple in order to force its own agenda. Immediately turned to the political climate of Arizona and concluded that illegal immigration was the main motive behind the shooting. It turns out that Loehner has big gripes against the Government overall in addition to mental disorders and addictions. The transiting chart shows Mercury in Sagittarius (communication of opinions, media) conjunct the North Node and Pluto (power) in the 10th House (Government) squares the Jupiter-Uranus in Pisces conjunction in the 1st House. This shows the inflamed and exaggerated coverage by the media and also brings up the discussion of how the hysteria created by media can affect people who are emotionally and mentally vulnerable.

July 12, 2007 Airstrike on Baghdad / Collateral Damage Video

Bradley Manning is the information specialist responsible for copying the video of a U.S. air strike on civilians in Baghdad back in 2007. He was tattled on by a hacker named Adrian Lamo and the tape was released in part by Wikileaks earlier this year.

Manning has been kept in isolation in jail since June 2010 which is now subject for debate. I looked a bit at his chart. He has a Sagittarius Sun which is caught up in a big outer planet configuration which shows that he somehow "speaks" for his peers. He struggles very deeply with all matters relating to ethics and law and philosophy. Sun is conjunct a Saturn-Uranus conjunction which trines Jupiter in Aries. Sun is also in conjunction with Mercury. Such an emphasis on the mental planets (Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus) and Fire shows a person who is freedom loving and also very idealistic. But, people who have Saturn-Uranus conjunctions are trying to balance an ever conflicted set of mindsets, the old v. the new, what is v. what ought to be.

Nothing like a t-square transit which uses all those heavies to really bring a big event into such a natal chart's life. And that's what's happened to Manning this year. And then there's Manning's Pluto.... Pluto, Pluto, Pluto. Manning's Pluto is in Scorpio, possibly in conjunction with his Scorpio Moon. The army made a good choice in sticking this guy in intelligence, but I think they underestimated his need to win all wars against evil.

I wasn't supposed to talk about Manning. I wrote something about him a while back, it probably sucks, that just snuck up on me.

What I really wanted to look at is the chart of the actual Attack in Baghdad. I found a blog post on Wikipedia which runs through the verbal interactions between teh Helicopter pilot(s) and their commander. Apparently the pilot was not relaying honest information back to command. You can read it here: http://willyloman.wordpress.com/2010/04/09/wikileaks-video-shows-apache-gunner-lied-to-command-at-least-8-times-to-gain-permission-to-kill-unarmed-civilians/

From the wikipedia post about the actual attack I believe that this is the timing for the attack. I only have "start" times. The video is 39 minutes long but does not include some parts of the attack. Apparently the gunner did engage in real combat with real combatants. This may account for his apparently irrational behavior, the type of behavior that Malcolm Gladwell describes in one of his books (the psychology behind what becomes police brutality, there's some chemical situation that trips on that's difficult to control).

Apache Helicopter Crazy Horse 18 (why name Crazy Horse? that's so rude) left camp Taji

July 12, 2007 9:24 am

Crazy Horse 18 arrives New Baghdad at 9:53 am

Sun 20 Cancer (H11); Moon 21 Gemini (H10); ASC 7 Virgo; MC 5 Gemini; NN 10 Pisces (H7 c. DESC)

The blog article and the comment reactions constantly describe Neptunian types of problems in this particular event. "The Fog of War" The out right lies of the gunner to the command, about killing people with cameras, shooting at photographers because mistaking their cameras for guns.

So, it's pretty interesting that this event occurred during the big Saturn-Neptune opposition. At the point that the helicopter reached New Baghdad this opposition had just passed over the ASC (Saturn-Venus in Leo) and Desc (Neptune). The Nodal Axis with North Node in Pisces was in conjunction with this Axis with North Node on the Descendant. This was squaring Jupiter in its own sign, Sagittarius, and Retrograde down in the 4th House along with Pluto (not in conjunction). Two Reuters journalists were killed in the fire. There was a coverup (Neptune) by the Government as Reuters was denied access to the video back in 2007 while they were trying to investigate the deaths.

I'm not sure what sign rules "Unarmed Civilians." I believe Helicopters would be ruled by Uranus and Uranus here is on an angle in H7 in the sign of Pisces.

It's always good to look at Mars in these situation what with him being the God of War. Mars is very weak in this chart at 13 Taurus (H9), but is also emphasized. He had no major aspects to other planets and is in minor aspects to Jupiter and Pluto in the 4th House and he is squaring Chiron in Pisces (H6). The gunner was just going "off."

And helping the gunner out with this was the Moon which rules the irrational. The Moon was way out of bounds at 28 degrees 03 minutes and was traveling fast 14 degrees 13 minutes. It was elevated in the chart and would have been passing over the Midheaven soon after arriving at the location. Interesting about the communication snafus and lies with Moon in Gemini.

Wikileaks released the video on the day that transiting Jupiter hit the spot where Uranus had been in this chart, 19 Pisces. Pisces also represents Jail and Isolation and all 3 of the key players in this exposure have spent time in jail now because of their involvement. Even the hacker who snitched on Bradley Manning was forced to spend 9 days in a Mental Hospital this year.

Supposedly Bradley Manning's health is suffering because of his extreme isolation. I suppose that he must be punished for treason in some way, but it would make me feel better if he were to be convicted before this level of torture engaged.

Dangerous Space Station Repairs

Two astronauts are tethered to the Space Station right now in the 1st of a 2-day long mission to switch out a busted 780 pound Ammonia Pump which has crippled the Air Conditioning on the Space Station.

With Pluto conjunct the North Node I suppose, but won't commit to the idea, that things can go wrong in outer space for earthlings. That's because of previous research and that amazing article about the Challenger over at Learning Curve on the Ecliptic blog. Pluto and the North Node are in a difficult t-square aspect to the Saturn opposition to Jupiter and Uranus and these planets are in prominent places at the Beginning of Cardinal Signs on the Astrological Wheel.

The Sun is in Leo today and the Moon is in Cancer. I have to look up what rules Air Conditioning and cooling systems. Circulatory Systems are ruled by Uranus. Coolness would be indicated by Earth and Water and I'll have to find Rex Bills to know what else specifically.

And I also need to know what the Space Station's sign is.

The Heroic Astronauts who are doing today's job are both Fixed Signs and their natal Sun are being challenged by the transiting Sun. The Sun is courageous and likes a Challenge and an Adventure. Both astronauts have Moon either in Leo or Virgo. Leo for keeping things upbeat and Virgo for doing a good job.

Douglas H. Wheelock has a natal Grand Earth Trine between Jupiter 4 Capricorn Rx, Mercury-Venus 2-3 Taurus and Pluto 4 Virgo. Today's Pluto is conjunct his natal Jupiter and so it and the rest of the transiting planets in the t-square are testing how much such and good luck Wheelock can have.

Tracy Caldwell Dyson has an interesting transit right now. She is not only going through her Uranus Opposition (innovation, space travel, electrical, gadgets) but she is going through a Jupiter Opposition. That is, Dyson has a natal conjunction of Jupiter-Uranus at beginning degrees Libra which is opposed right now by the transiting Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Aries. Since a person going through this aspect would feel like he is walking around in anti-gravity boots anyway it's pretty awesome that this astronaut is doing it for realsies. I used to have a great roommate named Tracy who shares Dyson's birthday.

Tracy Caldwell Dyson
Aug. 14, 1969 Arcadia, CA

Sun 22 Leo; Moon Leo or Virgo; NN 23 Pisces Rx.

Dyson has a natal conjunction of Pluto 24 Virgo to South Node 23 Virgo which is reflected in today's aspect.

Her progressed Sun, Mercury and Uranus are also at the beginning of Libra and connected into the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction. That sure does add to the imagery of electrical tape and monkey wrenches. This squares progressed Mars at 3 Capricorn. She has a lot of progressed planets which have just changed signs so she's definitely entering a new phase of life.

The Cancer Moon today is passing over Dyson's natal Venus-Lilith conjunction. Doug Wheelock has a conjunction of Sun and Venus at 4 degrees Cancer. This hooks into the t-square transit and the Moon as well. They are covering each others' backs right now. They are probably talking about how much they miss real food and their families. Of course, that's where the Moon is according to us earthlings. I have no idea where it is from the vantage point of the space station.

2 Mass Shootings Last Week

Last week there were two mass shootings within two days. The first one, on Thursday, a Military Psychiatrist specializing in treatment of PTSD victims of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars gunned down a bunch of his comrades at Fort Hood in Texas. The story is complicated by the fact that the shooter was of Arab descent and has been showing signs of loyalties to his heritage rather than his nation. The military and the media is questioning whether or not this was a terrorist attack. Nobody is questioning whether or not modern psychiatrists know what the hell they are doing. Shouldn't they have been the first to question this guy's sympathies with suicide bombers?

My first thought after hearing of the shooting was that the psychiatrist had heard so many PTSD stories that he just lost his mind, kind reminded me of that old episode of Night Gallery episode about the dying Sineater. The Sineater's profession was to sit by the corpse of people who paid him to eat a meal. By doing this he absorbed the sins they had committed during their lifetimes and so releasing their souls to go on to Heaven. Complicated part of the story is that the Sineater is about to die and he wants his Son to take over his profession. The Son, of course, must not only take over his father's awful profession but also must eat all the sins that his Father now contains within his soul. And that's a whole boat load of sins. The last scene is a gory close up of the Son's face as he gorges himself with food and panic. (Wonder if that's when my anorexia started).

Anyway, that's what the story first reminded me of. I completely doubted that the Army Shrink would be a terrorist. Then I looked at his chart. He doesn't have an obvious chart for a mass shooter except that I would expect a Virgo Sun/Scorpio Moon to be a really good aim with a rifle. Well, there's also a Mars-South Node conjunction.

The Shooter/Shrink, Major Hasan, is just past his Pluto square. That can be a difficult passage in a person's life regarding all things Pluto, things concerning one's feelings of power and impotence. Hasan's has been especially difficult as transiting Saturn has been passing over his natal Pluto at the same time while Uranus opposes this past year. Uranus, Pluto, and Saturn working together will certainly bring out a vulnerability to PTSD. Saturn (fear of failure, bitterness) and Pluto (resentment, revenge) can bring depression and Uranus can bring shock, weird and erratic behavior. The orb is considered kind of wide, about 5 or 6 degrees. But, in my opinion, Pluto transits have a long aftereffect, especially when they've been accompanied by other heavy transits and progressions.

Hasan's progressed Mars has been hanging out on top of his natal Pluto and transiting Saturn. That can certainly inflame feelings of rage that seem to come from out of nowhere.

After looking at the shooter's chart I immediately felt that he had not been acting alone. Maybe it's just difficult for me to understand why someone with Middle Eastern heritage would take a job like this in the first place.

Something interesting is that Hasan has a natal Venus-Jupiter conjunction, just like James Arthur Ray, the guy who recently led 3 people to their deaths in a Sweat Lodge in Sedona. (I wrote about this in my blog entry, 1957 problems). Hasan's natal Venus is at the end of Libra conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio. Not only was he going through his Venus Return during the shooting but Venus is squaring transiting Nodal axis. Not the usual transit for a shooting but it stands out.
Hasan's Progressed Venus has been passing through the sign of Scorpio for all of his life and it is now in conjunction with his Neptune at the end of Scorpio. I think it might be a notable connection that the Juipter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction was conjunct the Ascendant at the time of the shooting. At some point Venus has passed over his natal Moon in Scorpio.

I definitely am thinking that this is a frustrated guy thing especially with the Virgo Sun and Middle Age thing. Plus, he's probably been on meds (p.Venus on Neptune) and those things have a repeated history of creating shoot-em-ups. There's this weird conundrum is that the psychiatric profession urges people with traumatic disorders to "get help." And then the truth is they don't have treatments for the trauma.

I wonder if the military or the psychiatric profession is going to do anything to make amends to his patients. In addition to the victims who were slaughtered last Thursday, these people have had insult added to injury.

Hasan started working in psychiatry in 2001 and his mid-Virgo degree Sun would have been squared by the Saturn-Pluto opposition that centered on the Twin Towers attacks. (I sort of remember Michael Lutin pointing out that tense Saturn-Pluto contacts are very often related to the Middle East conflicts). What bad timing for a guy of Arab descent to be entering the Military. That's a bummer job, even for a Virgo Sun/Scorpio Moon workaholic.

The second shooter was a frustrated mentally ill guy whose life has been in free fall. He went to an old workplace and started shooting. He is born only a year apart from Hasan. It's interesting to me that both men were born within a year of each other and in the same Month. Both share a Pisces North Node and a Virgo South Node. They both committed their crimes at their workplaces (Virgo). And they will both probably be considered victims (Pisces) in the end through their mental illness. Pisces also rules drugs so it sure would be interesting to know if pharmaceuticals were somehow to blame. It definitely looks like the Saturn-Uranus-Pluto t-square transit is really hurting these guys (and their victims and their victims' families and friends and coworkers).

Rodriguez' chart is classic for a shooter. Sun conjunct Uranus and Jupiter squaring Mars.

Last Thursday and Friday it's interesting to notice that the Moon was Out-of-Bounds and moving very fast. Plus it was passing over the Gemini-Cancer cusp which is an Aries Point and opposing Pluto and squaring Saturn. That's one busy Moon.

In addition, the Sun was conjunct Mercury in Scorpio and squaring Mars in Leo. Scorpio as a sign is related to all taboo behaviors, murder included. This square was vaguely angular over the Descendant and Midheaven cusps for both shootings.

It's also interesting that the attacks occurred while the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction was in the 1st house of both event charts. In Hasan's case this reads out in literal terms as Religion-Wounded Healer-the Unexplained/Terrorism/BadReactionstoPsychMeds.

In the case of Jason Rodriquez' attack, Capricorn was rising and this conjunction was not a prominently placed but still angular in the 1st house. Mars was on the Descendant.

Donald Rumsfeld on Your Dance Card

This is another blog that's based on an interview I heard on NPR a few weeks ago. Can't remember the guy's name or his book, or even who interviewed him, it would have been between 11am and noon because that's usually when I'm in my car driving. ((((sorry))))) But, at any rate, the interview was about Donald Rumsfeld and how Donald Rumsfeld has gone through wild swings in popularity even within his own party and chums. He's certainly been on a decline in this area of life what with having been wildly misinformed about things like WMDs in Iraq and Torture in the prisons. Things just didn't go as planned for Don. The whole war just shouldn't have happened. Of course, the real Dick behind this mistake was the Big Dick, but I won't go there. I just wanted to see in this blog entry why Rumsfeld's popularity goes through roller coaster rides as indicated in his chart. For learning purposes. He does seem to have shown a bit of "oopsey" for how things careened out of control which is more than any of us can say for Cheney.

Donald Rumsfeld
b. July 9, 1932 Evanston, Illinois

Sun 18 Cancer; ASC 24 Sagittarius; Moon 3 Libra; MC 17 Libra; NN 21 Pisces

So, Pluto was passing over Rumsfeld's Ascendant as his popularity waned. That indicates a big crisis related to how he looks to others. But, according to the NPR interview this is a repeat performance through Rumsfeld's life.

So, with Sagittarius on the Ascendant we can see the Jupiter influence. Jupiter does things in a big way. It also tends to be very opinionated and that can distance people who don't agree with you.

Then we look at Rumsfeld's Sun in Cancer. That's emotional and reactive. Strong personal need for protection which will sometimes focus outward into the world around. And the Moon which rules Cancer rules the Public sentiment as well. Rumsfeld's Sun is located in his 7th House and is conjunct Pluto in that house. His Ego expression is strongly connected with the impressions of others which may bring about crises (through Pluto).

The Midheaven shows how others see you. It rules your reputation. This is certainly something that would affect popularity. Rumsfeld has a Libra Midheaven, great for Diplomacy and Government dealings. But, Uranus, planet of shock and sudden changes is opposing his MC from the sign of Aries. Right there would be enough to knock anyone around a bit with regards to these aspects of life. But, the Ruler of Rumsfeld's Midheaven is Venus, another planet tied to popularity which is prominently placed and heavily affliced in his chart.

Venus rules Popularity, though, maybe along with Uranus. And I was really curious to see if there were some kind of Retrograde Action going down with Rumsfeld's chart. There is. Rumsfeld's natal Venus is at 2 Cancer Retrograde in his natal chart. This is close to an Aries Point showing that his popularity comes before the public. It is placed on an angle. The Rx shows that there may be complications regarding anything having to do with areas in life that Venus rules, like women, relationships, open enemies, even values if the Taurus sense is used (don't know if that applies here).

Venus is also placed in the 7th House where it is relies on the behaviors of others. This does give talents for Diplomacy and an interest in Politics.

Moving along, we see that Rumsfeld's Venus is squaring his Moon which rules Public Opinion. A square is a hard aspect and indicates a Challenge between the two. This square is emphasized in Rumsfeld's chart because these two planets are in mutual reception with each other and are even caught in a triad loop with the Sun. Sun in Cancer disposits to Moon which disposits to Venus which disposits to Moon... it goes on and on.

The key for Rumsfeld to break this cycle, I suppose, would be to follow the path of his Nodal Axis. That's the key for all of us and good luck doing it.

Rumsfeld's NN is in Pisces. As Pisces rules veils and pink clouds and all the mysteries that don't present itself clearly to us in life I sort of suspect that it rules Terrorism. So Rumsfeld was perhaps abnormally attracted to dealing with Terrorists. He was on target with regards to performing public service and working within institutions. But he would have had to do it through Virgo means. The opposite end of the Pisces pole. Paying strict attention to details, being discerning about what is real and what is not, about how the basic systems work. If it doesn't look like a WMD, if it doesn't act like a WMD, if it doesn't talk like a WMD, then ... it's not going to be a friggin WMD, no matter how evil it is to its own people. Pulling down a Statue of the Leader and televising it to the World, very Neptunian. But, the point with the Nodal Axis is not necessarily to go overboard in expressing the North Node, it's in using the natural energies of the South Node to balance out its expression. At least, that's how I prefer to look at it.

First Day of Internet

The Internet is a Scorpio according to the message linked to below.

Internet 1st Message - Arpanet

Oct. 29, 1969, 22:30 originated UCLA, sent to SRI (Menlo Park, CA)

Sun 7 Scorpio; ASC 30 Cancer; Moon 4 Cancer; MC 20 Aries; NN 19 Pisces

1st transmission only sent 2 letters through and the system crashed. The full message was sent an hour later according to the message on the web. Lots of water influence in this chart. During the first transmission Cancer was on the Ascendant and Pluto was in the 3d House. An hour later when the Full message went through successfully, Leo was on the Ascendant and Pluto had moved up in to the 2d House. Uranus, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter in Libra were all in the 3d House of Communications. Amazing how this works out.

The Scorpio Sun was opposing Saturn and this opposition was on the angles in the 4th/10th Houses all along. This shows the roots in the Sciences I guess. An hour after the initial transmission the Sun-Saturn opposition was layered over the IC/MC axis within a degree. After that the Sun would have moved into the 3d House of Communications and the Celebrations would have begun.

P.S. Hope I've set the time correctly.

The Boogeymen of the Inauguration

Obama's swearing in was a Miracle both in acceptance by the U.S. of an African American Leader but also in the peaceful control of a huge crowd. This shows the angular Sun in the 10th House and angular Moon. The Sun was conjunct Mercury and Jupiter (eloquent President born of an immigrant and mixed marriage). The Moon was at the last degree of Scorpio in the 7th House (Public's deepest desires working in harmony and cooperation). Those are my interpretations, at any rate. There were problems with the music due to the cold temperature. YoYo Ma and his Classical friends apparently played to a dubbed version of their performance because their instruments couldn't stay in tune. Aretha Franklin was on Larry King saying that she was unhappy with her performance. But, damn, her hat was the finest confection that ever graced a female head, my knitting forums were going ape face over it.

There were problems with both of these aspects, the Mercury and the Moon as would be interpreted. With Mercury both Retrograde and Cazimi the Sun and with the Void of Course Moon one would expect some snafus and we were not disappointed. The Swearing In happened a bit late at around 12:06pm rather than at noon on the dot. Then the chief Justice messed up the 35(?) words of the swearing in. This was redone one Wednesday but without the Bible. So the actual "words," the Mercury element, didn't quite jell. It doesn't matter, really, but it's always difficult to know whether it's God in the Details or the Devil. I suppose it's best say a Blessing for the Virgo's before all important activities because things like this can be real thorns in the side. I think this is Obama's natal Gemini Moon square Pluto aspect in action anyway.

There was another problem, which could be attributed to the Scorpio Moon. Some Texan politican refused to okay Hillary Clinton's election as Secretary of State until the next day.

I wanted to check out the charts of the two guys who sort of put a clinker in the day's activities to see maybe what are party pooper aspects.

Both are Aquarians, oddly enough (an Aquarian keyword). Both are also Conservatives trying to cope with the aftermath of the Neptune transit to their Suns I suppose. Neptune is the planet of formlessness. It's supposed to break down one's sense of boundaries, thus its normal rulership for compassion for others. Needless to say this is not a Conservative's favorite planet. Conservatives like things to stay the same, like structure, and simple plans and boundaries.

First Boyfriend, Republican John Cornyn from Texas had to input his negativity by ensuring that Hillary Clinton's appointment as Secretary of State was delayed a day. I wanted to see what the dude's problem is.

John Cornyn
b. Feb. 2, 1952 Houston, Tx

Sun 13 Aquarius; Moon Taurus; NN 1 Pisces

Cornyn's in that limbo space between his 2d Progressed Lunar Return and his 2 Saturn Return. The second pass is not as quite as big a deal usually. They happen farther apart in years than the first return does. And they say that if you screwed up during your first Saturn Return you don't often make it to your second Saturn return. That last interpretation sounds like office folklore wisdom and I have no idea if it's true or not. Probably it's true some of the time.

Cornyn's got a Cardinal Grand Square in his chart. His Saturn is at 15 Libra and opposing Jupiter at 11 Aries. These square a Venus-Chiron at 8-9 Capricorn opposing Uranus at 11 Cancer. Right now his Progressed Sun is on his Jupiter to the degree so he's outspoken about his opinions. This is sort of a double whammy Sun-Jupiter aspect as transiting Jupiter is conjunct Cornyn's Sun. This is reflected in the Sun-Jupiter conjunction of the event chart.

I'm sorry I can't offer a reasonable interpretation of what a Grand Cross means except that a huge amount of difficult aspects will be tripped off quite frequently in a person's life due to the squares (challenges) and oppositions (opposition, need for balance). Venus conjunct Chiron in Capricorn certainly seems to bring on some loveability & fear issues that are focused outward into the social Jupiter-Saturn-Uranus squares. If someone had thought to send Cornyn a box of See's candies maybe he would have mellowed a bit. Cardinal Signs begin projects, so this was perhaps the Republicans' announcement that they intend to fight everything.

Cornyn's progressed Mercury has begun moving in Retrograde Motion in Aries since he's come in to office. (sometime around 2005? I'm not real sure about date) so he's probably going to become all balled up over a lot of mercurial type of issues concerning getting facts straight and being a pest in general.

Chief Justice John Roberts also messed up during President Obama's Swearing In Ceremony by quoting the words out of order. I thought that Obama had fumbled due to nervousness but apparently it was Roberts who mis-spoke. Later on that night I heard the news trying to replay the Swearing In and realized what a loss this was. Well, there's Mercury Retrograde for you. This one was right on Robert's natal Sun which was close to going through a Return (Solar). And Jupiter was there. And the North Node was there. And Mercury was cazimi. And the Moon was Out-of-bounds. And, boy did he screw up. So, the Sun-Jupiter-Mercury Rx conjunction really points the astro arrows at these guys.

Chief Justice John Roberts
b. Jan. 27, 1955 Buffalo, NY

Sun 8 Aquarius; Moon Pisces; NN 6 Capricorn

While looking up his birth data I was reminded that Roberts had a seizure on July 30, 2007. This may have a result of an illness. Interesting that at the time of the seizure, his Sun was in the process of progressing in to Aries at the time. Aries and Mars rule the brain and inflamation. Right now his progressed Sun is exactly square natal Pluto and is 7 degrees away from a conjunction with his natal Mars. Boy, I hope he's taking a lot of Vitamin C because that's an inflamatory aspect.

Additionally, transiting Neptune is at 24 Aquarius moving into conjunction with Robert's natal Mercury 26 Aquarius. He has to be careful about any drugs he's taking because they could be causing Mental Fogginess. Either that, or it could have been a Freudian Slip of a super conservative white guy. Neptune rules the subconscious memory.

With these heavy transits to his Mercury and Mars it would make sense that he's really trying to maintain right now. Robert's natal Mercury is in a t-square with Saturn and Pluto so his normally sharp, conservative mind is getting a good fogging over, that's for sure. His thinking could also possibly be getting an opening up to new and better ideas.

There are many aspects to look at. I'll end here. Hope I've got this info right.

Pablo Casals on His Conception Chart

In his famous book Anatomy of an Illness, Cousins describes a visit he made to Pablo Casals while the Maestro was in his 80s. For his book, Cousins is studying the role of creativity in healing in the lives of old, creative people. So they are talking and Cousins asks Casals what his favorite piece of music is. Great Question. Casals says his favorite piece of music is the Brahms Quartet in B-Flat. And then he shows Cousins the original manuscript for the Quartet which was given to him years earlier. When given the manuscript Casals learned another interesting fact about this particular work which Cousins tells in his book:

"...Brahms began to write the Quartet just nine months before I was born. It took him nine months to complete it. We both came into the world on exactly the same day, the same month, the same year." -- Anatomy of an Illness (p. 77-78)

This certainly seems like a good argument for using Conception Charts, if only they were available, along with reading a person's natal chart.

Pablo Casals
b. Dec. 29, 1876 8pm El Vendrell, Catalonia, Spain

Sun 9 Capricorn; ASC 20 Leo; Moon 24 Gemini; MC 12 Taurus; NN 13 Pisces

Johannes Brahms
b. May 7, 1833 3:30 Hambourg, Germany

Sun 17 Taurus; ASC 19 Aries; Moon 25 Sagittarius; MC 7 Capricorn; NN 17 Cancer

I understand that there are all kinds of pre-birth and Conception Charts. I don't know how to read those. But I am amazed by how the synastry between these two birth charts relate to each other.

First off, Casals' Gemini Moon is opposing Brahms' Sagittarius Moon within a Degree. The Moon's relationship to conception is very important so it's nice to know that they are relating here.

Then both men have Sun conjunct each other's Midheavens and squaring each other's Ascendants. Casals' Sun is conjunct Brahms' Nodal Axis as well which is configured very strongly in his (Brahms) chart. Brahms' has a conjunction to the degree of Mars-NN in his 4th House and it squares Brahms' natal ASC which is conjunct Pluto-Jupiter & Mercury. It is opposing Casal's Sun.

Another interesting tidbit. There was an Eclipse 9 months before Casals was born on Mar. 25, 1876 9:05pm (London time). (Sun and Moon at 6 Aries.) This Eclipse had a conjunction of Venus-Mars-Pluto (18-23 Taurus) on the cusp of the 8th House. This would have been conjunct Brahms' Sun and Casals' Midheaven. 8th House rules the Occult and re-Birth. Such planets combined on the 8th house cusp also indicates that Casals was probably the product of some pretty good Sex which could account for his great musical abilities and also his incredible political statements in defense of world peace.

This isn't all.

Casals goes on to say that the piece of music that he would most like to hear while he was dying was Mozart's Clarinet Quintet (written 1789).

Wolfgang Mozart
b. Jan. 27, 1756 8:00 pm Salzburg, Austria

Sun 8 Aquarius; ASC 13 Virgo; Moon 18 Sagittarius; MC 9 Gemini; NN 12 Virgo

Once again the Synastry is amazing.

Like Brahms, Mozart also has a Sagittarius Moon that opposes Casals' Moon. Here it is conjunct Pluto to the degree (planet of death).

The Men share the same Nodal Axis within a degree but with Nodes switched. This Axis is layered over Mozart's Ascendant/Descendant axis. And it is layered over Casal's 8th/2d house Axis! The Axis that rules Death.

And Casals said that the reason that he wanted to hear this particular piece (the 2d movement) because it was so light and clear. Mozart's Uranus was conjunct his South Node-DESC (all between 12-14 Pisces) right on Casal's 8th House Cusp. I don't know what Casals actually listened to when he died but do know that Uranus does show Lightness and Clarity and also what one Wishes for.

Cascadia Earthquake of 1700

Geologist Brian Atwater, along with a number of other Geologists, have conjectured that there was a huge 8.7 - 9.2 Earthquake off the West Coast of the United States in the year 1700. They've been able to determine down to an hour when this earthquake happened with the help of notes written in Japan that describe a Tsunami that was experienced all the way at the other side of the Pacific Ocean. Atwater has written about this in his book called The Orphan Tsunami of 1700 (haven't read it). The epicenter was offshore of Lincoln City, Oregon.

Cascadia Earthquake, 8.7 - 9.2
Jan. 26, 1700 9pm Lincoln City, Oregon (offshore)

Sun 8 Aquarius; ASC 24 Virgo; Moon 26 Aries; 23 Gemini MC; NN 15 Virgo

The angles in this chart aren't exactly as spectacular as I would hope. The Ascendant, however, is right at the midpoint of a Mars-Pluto square and Uranus is in the 10th house. These planets rule earthquakes and they both are involved in major aspect to Mars in Scorpio so this looks like a real rattler from an astrological perspective.

If you move the earthquake time back an hour you can have the Nodes crossing the Ascendant/Descendant line. If you move it forward slightly more than an hour to around 10:30pm, you can get both Uranus and Pluto elevated into the 10th house together.

Mars in Scorpio (depositing to Pluto, mass destruction) is involved in two significant configurations. It's involved in both a Water Grand Trine (created a tsunami) and is apex to a t-square.

The Water Grand Trine in this chart is Mars 7 Scorpio-Uranus 8 Cancer Rx-Saturn 2 Pisces.

The t-square has apex Mars in Scorpio squaring the Sun in Aquarius which opposes Pluto in Leo. These planets disposit to each other (mars: Pluto: Sun) and then to Uranus.

Uranus is slightly Out of bounds at 23 degrees 37.

The ruler of the IC is Jupiter and Jupiter is placed in the 4th House in Capricorn. It is conjunct Venus and is trining the North Node. This makes me think that maybe the earthquake happened about an hour or so later when Libra would have been rising -- it would make sense to have the ruler of the chart in the 4th house.

This is all conjectural. I doubt many people or animals or trees or mountains for that matter survived this thing. The Moon was in Aries in the 8th House which gives it a connection to both Mars and Pluto.

ADDITION ABOUT THE ECLIPSES:

There were 5 Eclipses in 1700, two of them were Total Lunar Eclipses on the Virgo/Pisces axis. This follows along with what I found that there seems to be more than the usual 4 eclipses during a year when there is a big earthquake, but there were no Total Eclipses in 1699.

The next Eclipse was a Partial Solar on Feb. 19, 1700 :49 UT, Sun c. Moon at 1 Pisces in H4. This is probably too late in time but it's interesting that Uranus rules the IC of this chart and Scorpio Rises with Mars in the 1st house unaspected in major aspect to other planets. The Sun-Moon and Saturn were in conjunction at the beginning of Pisces in the 4th house. This was followed by a Total Lunar Eclipse on Mar. 5, 1700.

Just for kickers I looked up Brian Atwater's chart to see if it relates to this earthquake chart, hehehe... This is just too much.

Brian Atwater
Sept. 18, 1951 New Britain, Conn.

Sun 26 Virgo; Moon Taurus; NN 10 Pisces

Atwater was born during the Uranus Return of the earthquake and Pluto was also in Leo conjunct Mars to the degree (10 degree orb difference -- Atwater's Pluto-Mars is at 21 Leo, Cascadia's Pluto is at 11 Leo).

Atwater's Uranus is trining his Nodal Axis showing that Uranian activities will be related to his destiny. His Nodal Axis is the reverse of the earthquake's. His Sun is conjunct the time that he chose for the earthquake. He has a Saturn-Jupiter opposition which would cross the early Libra Rising that I personally choose for this earthquake.

Please also see an excellent article written by Robert Wilkinson in his blog Aquarius Papers about a large amount of earthquakes that have been happening in this area this month: http://www.aquariuspapers.com/astrology/2008/04/earth-changes-i.html.

Leakey's Angels

Louis Leakey was the famous Archaeologist who established that the Human Race perhaps began in Africa. Leakey also seems to have a thing for hooking women up with monkeys. All three of the most famous researchers on primates were guided into their professions by Leakey, and oddly, especially for their time and for the danger that is inherent in their work, they are all women. So I thought I'd take a look at their charts. The women are Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birute Galdikas. Their charts definitely show their Maverick natures (Uranus) and their Courage (Mars, plus some).

Rex Bills doesn't give rulerships for specific primates, as far as I can tell. He says that Monkeys are ruled by Gemini, Mercury. Domesticated pets are ruled by Virgo, Mercury. Large animals are ruled by the 12th House and Jupiter. Wild animals are ruled by Uranus (according to Rex Bills).

I was curious to see how Mars figures in the charts. These women are all strongly independent. And I figured Mars indicates the idea of "Primate." Goodall's Mars is in Aries, Fossey's is in Capricorn, and Galdikas' is in Leo, all very strong willed placements. In addition, all three women have Mars-Pluto contacts. The 10 degree orbs are considered too wide by many but since they are included in stelliums that tighten the orbs so I think they should be considered. It's a relief seeing the Mars-Pluto aspect being used in life for something other than Temper Tantrums which is the common interpretation by Astrologers. Dian Fossey's Mars, however, was conjunct her Sun-Saturn and she did suffer from some of the more alienating Mars-Pluto-Saturn problems both politically and in that she was murdered perhaps by a poacher. Both Fossey and Goodall grew up in Divorced homes which could also develop into a loner, self dependent personality.

I've also noticed that Jupiter is strongly aspected in two of the charts and I think that Jupiter, Sagittarius should maybe be considered for Human-Animal Relations. Sagittarius is a Centaur, half man, half horse and I've noticed people with this sign very strong in their charts seem to have an affinity with animals. In these charts, Jupiter trines the Nodes of Goodall and Galdikas' charts. These two women interestingly were born with Jupiter within a degree of each other in Libra. All three women have strong Jupiter-Uranus aspects as well.

Venus is also strongly connected with Uranus-Aquarius. Goodall and Fossey have Venus in Aquarius (on the same degree) and Galdikas has a conjunction of Venus to Uranus. Two of the women have Venus-North Node Conjunctions. When one looks at Leakey's chart one can see his attraction to them as he had a Grand Square which included Venus in Virgo square Uranus. The other indicator for women in one's life is the Moon and Leakey's Moon was in Aquarius. One can certainly understand that a woman attracted to this line of work must be independent, enterprising and not bothered by the prospects of an alternative lifestyle. Bills assigns Rulerships for "Wilderness" to Uranus (Pluto).

The Day that James Hansen Shook the World

EDIT: (8/28/09) James Hansen's Birthday on Wikipedia is listed as Mar. 29, 1941 Denison, Iowa.

It's been 20 years since climatologist James Hansen, Director of NASA's Goddard Institute, made his announcement to the Committee on Energy & Natural Resources that he was 99% sure that Global Warming was a genuine danger to the Earth.

This was in 1988. Since then the World has been in non-stop debate over the reality of his announcement and now that Pluto (Crisis) has hit the spot where Saturn (Bureaucracy) and Uranus (Shock) were at the time of Hansen's announcement we are finally coming around to believing the guy. Neptune (disbelief) was already about 10 degrees ahead of Saturn and Uranus when Hansen made his announcement. I can hardly wait to see what happens to the Glaciers once Pluto hits that spot.

On the bright side, maybe Global Warming will reverse itself. Pluto, after all, rules transformation and change. From the looks of things it might be more realistic to believe that Hell will freeze over.

This announcement was made on June 23, 1988, Washington, DC. Saturn & Uranus were just at the end of Sagittarius showing some nice action very close to the Capricorn Aries Point -- a very public presentation of conflict with the slowness of one's government to act (Capricorn).

Too bad these Scientists never pay attention to the Astrologers because that was not a great day for making an announcement. 6 planets were Retrograde and, of course, Mercury was among them in its own sign of Gemini. And, it was conjunct Retrograde Venus! Mercury represents the Messenger and Venus represents the Debaters and both weren't working properly due to the Rx's. Although people panicked, nobody believed Hansen, especially not the Politicians and the business people. Everyone's been debating, and talking, and pondering both sides of the argument and then Blammo! Huge chunks of Glaciers just started breaking apart at the poles.

I checked the Secondary Progressions for this event to see when these planets came out of Retrograde (by Progression) to see if there was a correlation with acceptance of Hansen's announcement. Mercury stationed direct almost immediately in 1989-90 at 19 Gemini. Venus turned direct around 1999-2000 at 14 Gemini.

Interesting that this conjunction, in both the "event" chart and the progressed chart were hit almost directly by the Saturn-Pluto opposition transit in 2001-2 (think 9/11). This coincides with how long it took for the politicians, i.e. Big Business (Saturn-Pluto opposition) to catch on. I think that it took a couple more years for Bush to come around.

The event chart for Hansen's announcement has a conjunction of Mars (Alarm) to the North Node (Destiny) in Pisces. Pisces and Aquarius seem to be the signs most connected with atmospheric conditions. Unfortunately, Pisces being the last sign of the Zodiac, is sort of the Dooms-day sign. Hansen should have waited until the NN was in Aquarius and Mercury was blasting full steam ahead. The Thomas Edisons would have immediately come out of the woodwork to invent a solution.

It's interesting that Mars (planet of fire) was conjunct the Pisces North Node ("Doomsday" via "Poisoned" "Atmosphere" -- Pisces keywords) on the day that "Global Warming" become a serious "Danger." Also, this was the date that Politicians began to dispute the Scientists' warnings (Virgo South Node?).

I've found a problem with regards to birth data for James Hansen. It used to be listed in sources as Mar. 19, 1941 (Dension, Iowa) and now is listed on Wikipedia for Mar. 29, 1941. I'm sure he'd be broken hearted that I won't be able to babble on much about his chart.

The Pisces chart sure is interesting considering that people have been constantly complaining that Hansen is a Doomsday'er. Pisces is the last sign of the Wheel and those Sun signs can be a tad more attuned to the possibilities that the World will end.

If this is the correct birth date, Hansen's Pisces Sun would be opposite its ruler Neptune. This conjunction would be layered over the Nodal Axis of his chart: Libra North Node and Aries South Node. The March 29 birth date would still keep this Sun-Neptune opposition within orb of conjunction with his Nodes. One can see the struggle of his Libra North Node to get his message across in a diplomatic way. Geronimo had the same North Node.

Hansen was born during a Grand Conjunction of Jupiter-Saturn-Uranus in Taurus. And this conjunction is part of a Grand Earth Trine to Neptune in Virgo and Mars in Capricorn. How appropriate for someone who wants to save the Earth. (But, however, Dick Cheney has a Grand Earth Trine too so maybe it also applies to those who want to destroy the Earth. Maybe that interpretation doesn't apply...).

The first alarm was sounded in 1958 when a Scientist working in Hawaii began to measure rising CO2 in the air. Pluto was just entering into Virgo that year and Jupiter and Neptune entered Scorpio. Interesting the correlation with Science, Research, Clinical Proof, and Confrontation.

Pablo Casals

I admire this guy so much I can't even begin to try to think of fluffing up some stupid introductory remark. You want to see a great Master in action watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP5OUxyEOhk. Casals is teaching a student. The student plays, completely clueless how the music should sound and then Casals shows her how it's done...

Pablo Casals
b. Dec. 29, 1876 8pm Vendrell, Spain

Sun 9 Capricorn; ASC 20 Leo; Moon 24 Gemini; MC12 Taurus; NN 15 Pisces Rx

Casals was one of the greatest Musicians who ever lived. This is reflected by his Taurus Midheaven and Pisces North Node, and also his 5th House Sun trine Neptune.

Casals was born in Spain to musician parents. His Father had taught him to play piano, violin and flute by the time he was 4 years old. At Age 11 Casals decided he would play Cello. This would have happened right before Casals' first Jupiter Return in Sagittarius right on his 5th house cusp (music, performance). Jupiter is opposite Casals Moon which is way out-of-bounds at Declination 28 14' 36" N and a singleton in Air. At this time there was right around the time of the big conjunction of Neptune to Pluto in Taurus in the sky. This would have happened in Casals' 10th house and opposed his Mars in Scorpio.

Casals gave his first performance at Age 14 (Saturn opposition in Pisces including the Nodal axis) on Feb. 23, 1891. It's interesting that his progressed Sun was conjunct n.Mercury to the degree in the 5th house of performance. But, N.Mercury was apex of a Yod figure, inconjunct on either side to a sextile of Moon in Gemini & Uranus in Leo. I've heard stories about Casals' terrible stage fright, once his bow slipped out of his hand and into the audience because he was shaking so badly. I wonder if Yods can have something to do with this. There may have been some sort of fear of success related to not wanting to eclipse his Father in career matters. The Father is shown through Capricorn emphasis, Family tradition problems shown through the Yod and the Moon, and nervousness shown through Mercury, Leo, Gemini, and Moon. Certainly with the Capricorn there would have been fear of failure. Once he hurt his hand and had to stop playing for 6 months. He said it was one of the happiest times of his life. Fortunately he probably couldn't do anything else and had to go back to it. He was also an incredible Conductor who gathered together the greatest players of the time every year at his home for the Internationally famous Marlboro Festival.

Casals' major relationships show the Capricorn streak true to form. He was cautious and didn't marry his first partner who was his student. Then he married an American Socialite. Then at Age 80, at a very advanced age, he married another student. This marriage actually lasted until he died at age 96 and was his longest!!

Casals' greatest achievement is his contribution to music, but he is also known for his strong political stance against Franco's regime after the Spanish Civil War struck. Casals refused to perform in Spain until Democracy was reinstated in the country. He never got his wish and lived in exile for the rest of his life. He died in his Mother's birth country of Puerto Rico but he was buried in Spain. This tension is shown very clearly by a t-square aspect in his chart which is due for a repeat transit in a couple of years. Uranus (rebellion) was conjunct Casals' Leo Ascendant and it was apex of a t-square to Pluto (power, resistance) in the 10th House (Government) opposite Mars (discord) in the 4th(homeland). His t-square was in Fixed Signs whereas the transit coming up will be in the Cardinal signs which gives a much different flavor but Casals' planets are placed prominently in angular in his chart. The Uranus-Pluto square was furthered agitated by 135 degree aspects to his Sun in a Thor's Hammer aspect. This is again the Thor's Hammer which I looked at in Hillary Clinton's and John Edward's chart. It shows a strong need to fight for political rights apparently. Saturn in this chart is not in aspect to the t-square but is in the 7th house, also on an angle.

Carol Anne Gotbaum

This story has been all over the news. Carol Anne Gotbaum was a well-respected New Yorker who died while in Police Custody in the Phoenix Airport on September 28, 2007. She had reportedly developed a drinking problem within the last 3 years. I remember hearing that her Father passed away around that time so that may have been the trigger for her downward spiral. She was on her way to a rehab center in Tucson and had missed her first flight, had had to wait for a second flight and missed that flight as well. When she was denied onto the second flight she flipped out and started screaming. The Police were called. Here's a link to an article that gives the story along with times: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/05/national/main3333570.shtml.

Carol Anne Gotbaum's obituary says that she was born in 1961. This is all the Birth Info I can find for her. This may narrow her Birth Date down to being between Sept. 29 and Dec. 31, 1961 in South Africa (Cape Town?). During these 3 months, Jupiter passed from Capricorn to Aquarius and Uranus moved from Leo into Virgo which doesn't make interpretation any easier. It does look like Saturn's transit into Virgo was affecting her Uranus. She would have had Saturn in Capricorn and Neptune in Scorpio. This means that she was going through her Neptune square which is a time when one can be very vulnerable to developing a Drug & Alcohol problem. It also means that as she was sitting in the Airport waiting for the flight, her Saturn was passing through the 1st house of the event chart. I suppose this isn't the best location for Saturn to be in when one is "waiting" to catch a "delayed" flight while on the way to seek treatment for a "socially embarassing condition". Saturn passes through this spot every day but this would be the time when one is most vulnerable to depression and feeling like a failure in society's eyes.

Timeline:

1:06pm - Gotbaum arrived late at Gate for 1st Flight after doors shut.
1:06pm - 0 Capricorn Rising
2:49pm - Police get a call about a Loud, Screaming Woman at another Gate (2d flight)
2:53pm - Police tackle Gotbaum to the ground while placing her under arrest.
3:05pm - 0 Aquarius Rising
3:29pm - Gotbaum pronounced dead while in police custody.
around 6pm - Husband Noah Gotbaum notified that his wife had died.
6:01pm - 0 Aries Rising

The event chart is loaded. It has a Mystic Triangle, a Yod and a Grand Trine. The Pisces NN is involved in all 3 configurations. Pisces rules imprisonment, drugs, alcohol, and victims (and film, media attention). Saturn is conjunct the South Node in Virgo. Virgo rules Police and Saturn rules Lessons and overbearing use of Authority and the South Node shows that Virgo traits (cold analysis) need to be constantly balanced out by Pisces (empathy) traits at this time.

The Sun in Libra is squaring the Mars-Pluto opposition and is passing through the 8th House while Carol Anne is detained and dies. This is a very violent aspect, people are short tempered and impatient and use of force could be extreme. It also could indicate suicide, certainly she would have been at danger. Mars is also on the Aries Point passing from Gemini to Cancer as this event happens. The situation comes to the public's attention.

There are 3 oppositions. The one that stands out is the opposition between Mars and Pluto. Mars is also squaring the Sun (Sun out of orb to square Pluto). This placement shows violence and use of force and it is conjunct the ASC and DESC axis as Carol Anne was denied access onto the first flight. This explains why she would have overreacted but it also indicates that probably she wasn't treated very kindly at the Gate. Some days you can handle that, when you're on your way to Rehab, it's not so easy. This opposition was passing through the 6th-12th house axis as she was arrested and had just passed into the 5th-11th house when she was declared dead.

Noah Gotbaum, Carol Anne's husband, was not told about her death by the Police until 2 hours after she died. He was told around 6 pm just as Pluto hit the MC and Mars hit the IC and Aries was rising at 1 degree! The Aries Point once again. The story caught on like wild fire. The Sun was opposing the ASC from H7 and squaring the Mars-Pluto opposition from the 7th house (husband)! The Sun during this whole time was also apex to a Yod inconjunct to the Pisces NN on one leg and the Moon on the other leg. What a wild configuration to learn about the death of one's spouse! This makes one wonder what the police did to cover things up. Neptune, Chiron and the NN were in the 1st house.

The 2d opposition is between Venus in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius. Venus was in the 8th house along with Saturn when Carol Anne was denied her first flight. This describes a feeling of deep desperation and loneliness. Venus passed into the 7th House as she was denied the second flight and also while she was detained and died. Neptune, opposing that Venus, was of course in the 1st house along with Chiron during Carol Anne's last minutes. This indicates some chance that she had taken drugs or alcohol while waiting. Considering her Neptune was squaring Neptune opposite Venus shows that she was extra vulnerable. This also shows the media publicity and popularity of the arrest video.

The 3d opposition was the opposition of Mercury at 1 Scorpio opposite Moon at 4 Taurus. Taurus rules the neck and Scorpio rules death, murder, would probably be involved in strangulation or choking. Mind and Emotions were not harmonizing. Nobody involved was using their heads. The woman at the Gate was unsympathetic to her customer's needs and called the Police at 2:49pm and by 2:53 the police had knocked Carol Anne to the ground and had her in handcuffs. No one tried to calm her down or probably explain what was going to happen if she didn't calm down. She was probably not acting her best in the first place. "Warnings" I suppose would be Saturn's job. He was in the 7th House but conjunct the South Node which I suppose means that only his Authoritarian side came out. At this point, Capricorn was rising so Saturn ruled the chart. All this and the flight Gotbaum was supposed to be on hadn't even left yet.

At 3:06 pm Aquarius was rising. I'm not sure of her time of death but it would have been around now. The Police chained Carol Anne up and left her screaming and when she went silent they went to check on her. Then they claimed she strangled herself with the chain (which was linked to her handcuffs which were behind her back). Ruler Uranus was in the 2d house. That's Taurus's house which rules the neck. It could also indicate that she choked. She may have vomited and aspirated while screaming and no one paid attention. Uranus is in Pisces which rules imprisonment so one wonders what other bizarre circumstances have been happening in the jails.

The Aquarius influence certainly does describe Carol Anne's death. Headlines are full of Uranian keywords: "Bizarre Death," "Death Shocks Cops" "Puzzling Death" and all happening at a Uranian place, the Airport.

Dreamwork, the CIA and Jose Padilla

NPR, God Bless Em, aired an Interview with a panel of psychology experts who are assembled in San Francisco for their yearly APA (American Psychological Assoc.) Conference this week. One of the main concerns to be discussed this year is Psychology's role in interrogating suspected Terrorists. What is "Ethical" and "Effective." The AMA and the A Psychiatrist Assoc (both Psychiatric and Psychological associations go by initials APA apparently) have completely sworn off of torture. But the Psychologists want to stay in the game. "Psychology is an important weapons system" said Kevin Kiley, the ex U.S. Army Surgeon General who was forced to resign earlier this year during the Walter Reed Scandal.

All agree that the torture tactics are now proven not to work. Most were "reverse engineered" by James Elmer Mitchell and Bruce Jessen from off of tortures of previous survivors of captivity. Mitchell and Jessen had had no previous experience or clinical background in interrogation techniques when they began to train the folks at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and other CIA Black Sites. At one point, a prisoner caved in and gave all kinds of false information about Biowarfare and sent the Military on a wild goose chase. The Iraqi General Abed Hamed Mowhoush died due to injuries inflicted. Didn't the Spanish Inquisition end? Isn't it already over? Is this a form of Deja Vu? Is this memory real or chemical?

So the super amazing part of the NPR interview was that the psychologists on the panel didn't want to divulge the names of any of the offending interrogators until after their investigation kind of like how the executioners at the guillotines always wore black masks so that they could get drunk at the local pub afterward and their buddies wouldn't know who they were. I mean, once the war ends, these psychologists will be out practicing privately -- on you. Maybe they'll get a book deal. The media likes to stay mum on this subject as well. Shouldn't they just be relieved of their licenses and allowed to drive trucks or go coal mining? Oh, I'm sorry, those jobs require socialization.

The CIA prisoners have been detained for 5 or 6 years now, held without a trial and tortured the whole time. And the psychologists who have been torturing them run around on the complete opposite end of the spectrum completely unaccountable for their actions, unfettered, probably turning on their own kids and clients out of boredom. And their colleagues are out doing public information interviews on how well-meaning they are.

"How does that make me feel? Does it make me feel angry? Does it make me feel sad?" I have to admit my heart is pounding... My eyes are tearing up... So good to come out of denial...release...release... Now where's the Prozac?

I'd like to list the names of the offending psychologists along with their birth dates but these are remarkably difficult to come by out of respect for their confidentiality. The program listed and I'm sorry if I've got the names misspelled, they went by so dang fast:

John Lesso
Scott Uthall (from Abu Ghraib)
John Edmonton (from Guantanamo Bay)

Don't forget the architects, trained and well-respected members of the APA:

James Elmer
Bruce Jessen

By jovial happenstance, yesterday, one of the lead examples of what Modern Psychology can do for You is it's most outstanding victim from the war on terror, Jose Padilla, a U.S. Citizen, one of our own. Padilla now has some kind of weird muscle twitch in his face, has PTSD, and that illness where you really think your captors are cool. He developed these problems because of what happened to him somewhere on the Carolina Coast. And he's a U.S. citizen.

Jose Padilla
b. Oct. 18, 1970 Brooklyn, NY

Sun 25 Libra; Moon Gemini; NN 2 Pisces

Padilla's a Libra Sun with a Gemini Moon with no Fire in his chart. Torturing this kind of person would be like picking the wings off a butterfly.

Padilla's chart has a conjunction of Mars and Pluto at 29 Virgo, He is violent, or at least was violent. And apparently he attracts violence. He belonged to gangs and then joined al-Qaeda. With Neptune squaring the Pisces North Node and Venus conjunct Neptune in Scorpio opposite Retrograde Saturn, one can see how he would prefer terrorism to common street warfare. One can also see how it would be impossible to extract information from him. Getting information from a Neptunian, that's like trying to extract blood from a turnip. With Retrograde Saturn, Noel Tyl's absentee Father signature, the army could have just told him that his Father had come to spring him from jail, if only he would tell them whatever it is they wanted to know. If that didn't squeeze it out of him, then nothing would. Also, compounding the bad Saturn, Padilla's Venus went retrograde by progression when he was around 2 years old and has been opposing his Retro Saturn most of his life. He just wanted somebody to love him. No wonder why he fell in love with his interrogators, they fed him, clothed him... and pulled off his wings... He's a Libra, for Christ's sake.

Natally, Neptune is squaring Padilla's Pisces North Node which it rules and Venus is conjunct his Neptune in Scorpio and opposing his Retrograde Saturn in Taurus. Illusion, Delusion, Mean Psychologists, Loving your Jailor, it's all good. Yeah, he's a sneaky guy who can't be trusted, but, if he were withholding information, he wouldn't have known he was withholding information.

Padilla was arrested in May, 2006 and secreted away without anyone's knowledge to a special accommodation by the CIA on June 16, 2002. (I tell you, those rooms reserved by Hotwire where they don't tell you where you're going beforehand, they can be madness. Sorry, just gotta get that in there.) He really had worked for al-Qaeda so he was guilty as sin. But it was small time sin and the CIA seems to have thought it could drain all of al-Qaeda's big time sin out of his little Sun-Mercury in Libra brain.

And when you pull hard enough, they start to drewl.

Padilla's progressed Sun was at 27 Scorpio conjunct his Venus-Neptune and opposing his Saturn. Sun-Neptune = Go to Jail. Institutions just really want to have their way with you at that time. Progressed Mars was conjunct his natal Mercury-Sun so I guess this is a great time for meeting the Grand Inquisitor.

Also, some Nodal Action. Nothing says, "Surprise, you're going to Jail!" like t. Uranus was at the end of Aquarius and within a couple of degrees conjunction with his Pisces North Node. At the same time there was the Saturn-Pluto opposition right on top of the t.Nodes and this was possibly conjunct his Moon. Kind of an Alfred Hitchcock moment for the mid-Mutables.

Padilla has been in jail ever after. 3 Psych people of varying ranks have determined that he is now officially mentally ill due to torture and will probably never recover. He has become a symbol of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. By coincidence Padilla is going through his Pluto square: t.Pluto 27 Sagittarius square natal Mars-Pluto 29 Virgo. He's also celebrating his Nodal Return in Pisces. The Moon yesterday, date of conviction, was in Virgo conjunct his natal Mars-Pluto. It's interesting how the major outer aspects in his natal chart are repeated in the sky right now. Both charts have a Saturn-Neptune opposition and a Saturn-Pluto trine. Don't know what it means. Just wish that his torturers could be held accountable for their crimes as well.

Oh, and by the way. Kevin Kiley, ex-US. Army Surgeon General quoted above, he who said "Psychology is an important weapons system" is born a day after Padilla (Oct 18, 1950 Pennsylvania). He's got a conjunction of Sun-Neptune (and Venus-Mercury) in Libra, echoing not only Padilla's natal Libra Sun but also the conjunction of his progressed Sun to his natal Venus-Neptune during all his whole arrest time so far. They also share a Pisces North Node (at the opposite end). Kiley's Saturn-South Node in Virgo is conjunct within a degree of Padilla's Mars-Pluto. This is the only Inquisitor Birth Date I could find but the relationship between the two charts is frightening. Kiley trained not as a Psych person but as an OB-GYN so it makes sense that psychology would seem like subtle torture to him.
