Lead in water in Flint, Michigan

President Obama just declared a state of emergency in the city of Flint, Michigan because there are such high levels of lead in the water. Was curious to look at the chart to see what is happening with Saturn, ruler of Lead. Saturn right now is squaring Neptune in Pisces which is a powerful water influence, and also rules poisonings. The chart is amazing for this.

Flint, Michigan has a natal square of Saturn in Gemini to Neptune in Pisces! So the natal square is not only mirroring the transiting square but is squaring/opposing it! And this is Flints' Neptune return in Pisces.

Not only that, Flint has a Capricorn Moon (Saturn, lead, water, plumbing) which might be in conjunction aspect with transiting Pluto ( water, poison).

Flint has to find a positive way to manifest that unaspected Sun in Aquarius or it will continue to represent problems of the people. Unaspected planets don't flow with the rest of the chart so their energies stand out in the chart. The Sun is the ego and will shine wherever it is. Maybe open a clown school or attract free energy inventors. Remember, Flint, Uranus says "the trend is your friend". You must innovate. Now we all have to get water tests in our own aquifers to see if we have the same or similar problems (and we definitely do in California).

Neptune-Pluto Sextile Stuff

I just realized a couple of things about outer planet transits.  This would be a big doi for most astrologers I guess but I'm just catching on.

When you have a long term planetary aspect this means that no one born during that time will have an unaspected planet in his or her chart.

Am wondering how that works out for all of us who are born during this long Neptune-Pluto sextile.  It moves in and out of orb and has changed signs but so many people born within the last 50 or so years share it.  Because of their long orbits no one on earth can experience a full cycle of either of these planets.  It's sort of as if we have "talent" (sextile) for understanding what most generations before us thought was mystery.  Kind of interesting how our generations aren't producing any original art, Religion has been given backseat to Science, and We are extremely materialistic.  All the natural Neptune-Pluto interpretations seem to not exist.  The Pluto in Leos have strong belief in Astrology but the Pluto in Virgos and Libras don't seem to.

Lots of ways to translate this.

Both Pluto and Neptune rule Water signs.  Water is becoming the biggest concern with global warming. There's a study from out of a school in Wisconsin about how the tap water supplies in Wisconsin (maybe it was Minnesota) and California has fecal contamination because the underground plumbing infrastructure is broken. Just try going into a Health or Water dept to explain this.  You will get nothing but denial.  Actually the reaction is so Neptunian it's unbelievable.

The other planet which rules Water is the Moon.  This functions at the completely opposite side of the life span cycles in humans.  The Lunar Cycle is the first cycle a baby completes.  It's the shortest cycle and humans have way more Lunar Cycles than any other planet. I know, the Moon isn't a planet, it's a Moon.  Curing first year of life, Babies have at least 10 Lunar Returns before completing any other planetary cycle if they happen to have their first Mercury Return at its earliest which is 10 months.  Learning how to receive Love and to reflect it back is the most important human survival skill maybe.  Maybe we just need to develop ability to process hydration in our systems before anything else.

Babies: Fairness and Sharing

Yahoo has published a cool article called "Kids May Develop a Sense of Fairness Earlier Than Thought."

The reason why I'm fascinated by this study is because it hooks up so well in my research matching stages of Child Development and the First Planetary Cycles in a child's life.

The researchers found that 15-month old babies can tell the difference between equal and unequal portions of food. Anything involving understanding equality and portions relates directly to Venus.

This sort of matches up with the first Venus cycle which will happen in most children within 2 months before or after the first Solar Return or Birthday (10 months to 14 months).

I equate the time between the first Venus Return and the first Mars Return, which usually occurs just before the second Birthday, as the time when a child develops the qualities of his natal Venus because he has just completed a complete cycle of that planet in his chart. (He has also just completed a complete cycle of Mercury and Sun so it gets more complicated).

Venus is related to connecting with material objects through its rulership of the sign Taurus and connecting with other people through its rulership of the sign Libra. Libra is related to harmony, portion, balance, sense of "the other" as in all one on one relationships. Taurus is related to connecting with objects in early childhood. We develop our cognitive abilities (Mercury, Gemini, Virgo) by remembering familiar objects in our environment.

The Sun's influence could also be involved here as the Sun rules our generosity.

The study developed theories about how early our sense of fairness and altruism develop. But it also studied how early babies develop the ability or desire to share what they have. I always figured this type of thing is shown ultimately in the chart by Neptune which is considered the higher octave of Venus.

I've seen in my research that the traditional rulership of Jupiter which includes both the influences of Sagittarius and Pisces as showing up pretty clearly. The first Jupiter transit cycles (square, trine, opposition) sort of double as ruled by Neptune as well. Things related to Sagittarius, such as very quick learning of vocabulary, sense of ethics, rules, and development of friendships outside the inner boundaries of family develop at this point. But, also very Neptunian hings like wanting to be a fairy princess, imagination, having imaginary friends, understanding the concept of secrecy, often show up around the time of the first Jupiter Square (Age3) and Jupiter trine(Age 4).

The study also observed whether or not babies share at this age. I suppose that's connected with Venus and the Sun and possibly Mercury. Supposedly 1/3 of the babies shared their favorite items willingly. 1/3 of the babies shared their least favorite items. And 1/3 wouldn't share at all. I suppose we'd need to know where Pluto was placed in the babies' charts. If it was in Capricorn I'd expect to see less desire to share. Both Pluto and Capricorn represent the parts of ourselves which do not like to share.

The Way That Neptune Works

Hope the link for this video works. It's a video of a baby playing with a lion at a zoo. There is nothing but a plate of glass between them. Otherwise the child would be toast.

Obviously the child has no Saturn/Fear issues in his chart. I assume that the parents were the people who were photographing the incident. Also ruled by Neptune. I've never really been able to understand the psychological leap that occurs between Pisces and Aries, but perhaps this describes it. The impulsiveness of Aries has the ability to forge ahead and go where no man has gone before. It also is responsible for why folks end up in jail.

Osama bin Laden Dead

Wow, if you're a Pisces terrorist you sure do have to watch your Neptune transits. Pisces Sun Osama bin Laden has been located and murdered, shot twice on the left side of his face. He was living in a well-healed town not far from the capital of Pakistan called Abbottabad. And he was living within yards, apparently, of a military post in Pakistan.

I sort of wonder if the huge floods which occurred over the Summer in Pakistan had something to do with Osama's end. Neptune rules floods. I googled and found that Abbottabad was flooded on or around August 2. Neptune also rules photography. I wonder if somebody ended up locating him on Google Earth while checking the status of the floods.

Osama has already been buried at sea. The report I read said that no country would take his body. So there's more Neptune.

From an article in San Jose Mercury News the attack began early Monday morning at 1:15 am. Another source said that the attack lasted 40 minutes and that Osama was killed towards the end of the fight. The Neptune-Chiron conjunction was prominently placed in the 1st house at that point. Neptune was a singleton in every way possible, Mutable, Water, Angular, and was ruler of the 1st House and the chart. And, of course, Neptune has just entered its own sign of Pisces.

Uranus 3 Aries was still ruling the chart but had just passed up in to the 1st House as well. And Lilith was with Uranus, of course. Aries rules the face and head. Aries also rules gun fights.

So, perhaps this means that the United States is going to get its mojo back. I still don't understand the 18-19 year cycle of the Moon which relates to being out of bounds but it sure does seem to hook in with the 9/11 attacks. The 10-year part of the cycle which the Moon goes on wild swings in and out of bounds began the day after 9/11 attacks. The part of the 9 year cycle in which the Moon doesn't follow these swings began last month. I wrote about it but am too lazy to link to it.

Anyways, the Moon is the ruler of Cancer which is the U.S. Sun.

Neptune into Pisces - Are You Vitamin D Deficient?

Neptune's rolled into Pisces. Someone on my Knitting Website is putting together a pattern for an M.C. Escher blanket that looks amazing. It's a quilt like thing where you knit a bunch of those tesselated fishes (they have bobble eyes -- coosh!) and sew them together in that M.C. Escher pattern. Wish I could do pictures.

So, I'll buy the pattern and hopefully make a couple of fishes and then probably get bored and use them for potholders. But, either way, awesome!

What's interesting is that just as the planet of altered states of awareness both good and bad comes into its own the Science community is finding that much, or at least some of the reason, for the bad versions of the altered Neptunian states is due to a Vitamin D deficiency. Doctors are beginning to find a connection between psychosis and low Vitamin D levels. Turns out that people who benefit from this research are immigrants from sunny Northern Countries who move to Northern Countries. Pretty amazing how that timing works out. Vitamin D is made in the body normally by just going out into the Sun.

Who Gets Burned During the Witch Hunt?

What with the Uranus-Neptune mutual reception ending I think we are pretty finishing up our interstellar understanding of how the collective unconscious works. Everyone has gathered round and now everyone's waking up and realizing that they don't really like each other.

So, just out of curiosity I wanted to check out some good old American Witch trials to see what might indicate some bad sided versions of what is supposed to be a good thing, the collective unconscious, because, frankly, I like a little control here and there (Capricorn Moon) when everyone comes together and agrees with the collective. I have to also say that I don't like mass mentality at all.

The Salem Witch Trials occurred in 1692 in Salem Massachusetts. There are probably some really great interpretations out there on the Internet which I hope to look up some day but haven't quite yet.

During the Summer of 1692, 19 people were put to death. Historians now say that this was probably not due to their dealings with the devil but their financial abilities, the collective unconscious was jealous of their money. Pluto anyone? Pluto does as much good as he does bad, he just is generally remembered for the bad because he's the silent type and generally doesn't brag about his successes.

Interesting that in 1692 there was a Saturn (Authority) opposition to Uranus (Crowds) crossing the Gemini / Sagittarius pole. I suppose one could say that gossip/slander/opinions/beliefs were at the root of this problem. In June when the trials began the Sun passed over Uranus in Gemini along with Jupiter, Chiron and Mercury Retrograde. It could have been a good year if Chiron hadn't been in there maybe.

So, like the current past year, Jupiter was in conjunction with Uranus and opposing Saturn.

At that point, Neptune was at 20 Pisces in its own sign. People were confused. You can't ever figure out who the witches really are during a heavy Neptune transit. People were freaked out by anything they may not have understood. And this is where Pluto comes in. Pluto needs to be powerful.

Pluto was just at the end of Cancer, passing into Leo. That point is probably connected with conformity and clansmanship and emotional excess/romanticism/sentimentality (those are the negative interpretations, there are always positive interpretations). People are learning about how and with whom to place their loyalties. There's a sense that things have to be nice, but in an childish, sand boxish kind of a way. Pluto brings changes (I won't say lessons) in how power is handled so that growth may occur. This was a big oopsy moment. I really wonder which Sun Signs were most likely to be barbqued under this aspect. Wikipedia doesn't include birth dates of the victims. About 150 people were arrested. 19 were found guilty.

Mars and Venus were in conjunction pretty much the whole time in the signs of Leo and Virgo. That's a really interesting conjunction to think about in connection with a Witch Hunt and I can't really explain it but I think a hooker could.

Neptune's cycle takes 165 years to pass around the astrological wheel. Neptune was discovered in 1846 during his next pass in to his own sign.

The Communist Manifesto was published at that point (please see Adrian Ross Duncan's article about Neptune in Pisces (he's such an excellent astrologer and writer: http://www.world-of-wisdom.com/blog/neptune-in-pisces/33/). This was the good side of Neptune, the Civil Rights side.

Neptune's last pass through Pisces in the United States contains the last years of Slavery before the Civil War. Neptune rules Slavery. So at that time the good side of Neptune was also playing out in the U.S. The War didn't happen until Neptune passed into Aries, though. Neptune prefers hangings, poisonings, and big regrets. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and, in the art world at least, you can always count on the Pisces to get really bored with "same old, same old." They have a great sense of what's not working. It is the sign which signifies "Letting Go" For those of us who aren't good at letting go, Neptune moves in and clouds things up for a time so that we just in the end wake up one day and wonder what the hell just happened.

It's been another 165 years and Neptune will pass into Pisces next Month once again. We can maybe purchase a gas mask over the Internet. Hope we're not heading into any more Witch Trials, ehrrr.

World of Wisdom says that psychics will be in demand. I sort of think it's a good time to keep the psychic thing on the down low. Don't confuse people. Just be the first to say that nothing's working and we need something new. If you really want to succeed in life grow some pot (not really, that's a joke, I hate the stuff). This will be a time when people could be thinking there's just not enough Love to go around. The psychic stuff just can be a little annoying.

I looked up the McCarthy Era which was the last great American Witch Trial. This occurred because of Political paranoias and in-tolerance rather than Religiosity. J.Edgar Hoover was doing some pretty crazy stuff in order to keep things under control. He was a Capricorn so the Sun Sign astrology works out pretty well here with the control and authority symbology.

What does this mean? The U.S. seems to enjoy Pluto in Leo in which to celebrate its Witch Hunts? Well, Pluto was again in Leo. I wonder if this is because due to its orbit Pluto has to spend so much time in Cancer and Leo, it just sort of bends in on itself, the power thing.

Wikipedia lists a bunch of names of people who were black-listed during that era and I just had to look up their Sun Signs -- Gemini Rising? People's lives were wrecked just because somebody had a bad feeling about them and decided to tattle.

For my own curiosity I checked out which signs got into trouble. Who was accused of being a Communist? "The List." Amazing. By a long shot the people who got black-listed were Aries, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces. (4 birth dates weren't available through Wikipedia so this isn't a complete list).

Which Signs fared the best? Who are the folks who can sail through a mass lynching and not get tagged? Pretty interesting. Leo. Virgo. Libra. Aquarius. The innocent bystanders of the Zodiac. Well, maybe Leo's not really known for taking a neutral stance. But, when Pluto's transiting over your Sun the ball is in your court. You might be forced to fly the plane. The other 3 signs, Virgo, Libra and Aquarius are very good at maintaining neutrality. They're the pros.

The rest of the signs, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and Capricorn were in the middle of the road regards accusations. And, as I said, J.Edgar Hoover was a Capricorn.

I should have paid more attention to what Chiron was doing. I think he is often very connected with being accused of things one hasn't done.

Little Girls and Princesses

There seems to be a lot of concern from Mothers these days over not wanting their daughters to pretend that they are Princess. I remember hearing a Fresh Air interview with comedian Sarah Silverman saying that she loves to talk to little girls about being Princesses and about telling secrets. Knowing Silverman's style of humor this is probably done just to irk the Mothers who are freaking out whenever adults drag their girls into these non- PC conversations.

I remember how upset my own Mother used to get over my obsessions with wanting to be a Princess and with my love of the color pink. My Father on the other hand loved it. I was his little girl.

And I had a boyfriend for a while who had a 4-year old daughter who was obsessed with all things pink and purple. He loved how silly the whole thing was. And even more I think he loved how much it upset the little girl's Mother. I sort of wonder if this whole thing is now peaking with the Pluto in Libra Mothers who are super sensitive to not wanting to see their daughter's power taken away from them by any relationships or by a society that expects them to be all ruffly and Hello Kitty.

I heard a great interview with an author who has just written a book about this today. Unfortunately I lost the name of the book and the author. She was talking about women in middle age are still obsessed with Hello Kitty. There is some boutique in San Francisco which sells Hello Kitty champagne to adults who never grew up. I love Hello Kitty myself and I remember being admonished for that affection by my Mother.

So, I just want to share some findings which branches off from my research about Children and Divorce and this whole Princess thing that might have to do with a particular phase of development in little girls. In Divorce situations one would look at this phase as turning into an element of trauma which can manifest later in life in connection with the Jupiter cycle. In this case one hopes that it is just a phase that a child needs to work through in order to learn how to handle her own Jupiterian energy. We all know what a boundless bottle of Joy Jupiter is, after all.

What little boys go through might be completely different, but I have found that this part of a little girl's development corresponds really well with the first Jupiter square, trine and opposition which take up most of a child's development between the ages of 3 and 6 when the Princess stuff seems to be strongest. I think I may have my Romans mixed up with my Greeks. Jupiter is the Roman equivalent of Zeus in ancient Greece so either way I'm talking about the same guy.

In classical astrology, Jupiter is the Father of Pallas Athene. Pallas Athene, the Goddess of Wisdom, has an interesting birth story in that she has no Mother. She is born by popping directly out of her Father's head. So, I sort of wonder if this age is connected with a bonding ritual between daughter and Father which makes the Mother feel left out or which at least excludes the Mother. It would be difficult to say for sure, but sort of interesting. I'm pretty sure that within the stress of divorce, a daughter might develop a really difficult relationship with her step-mothers at this age. It's almost a given that a step-mother will complain about how manipulative her step-daughter is at this age and how she needs to have her Father's attention. For some weird reason step-mothers rarely say the same thing about the step-sons.

Either way, Jupiter is ruler of the sign of Sagittarius which rules all things having to do with giving opinions. At the age of 3 childrens' vocabularies are expanding at a very rapid rate, something like 9 words a day. This is the age (approximately) of the first Jupiter square. By the time of the first Jupiter trine, an easy aspect, children are developing "potty mouth." By the time of the first Jupiter opposition at around Age 5.5, they are learning about telling all kinds of stories, true and false. The point is, storytelling is a big part of all this Jupiter energy. In order to tell a story a person will begin to create all kinds of new roles and environments. Princesses, Castles and Magical Lands are just status quo. Well, and Jupiter likes to sit on a bar stool as well, but don't tell the kids that.

And to add to this, we also see the strong influence of Jupiter's other Classical rulership, the sign of Pisces. Pisces rules the Imagination and all the Fairy tale types of stories. Total Fairy Princess stuff. I used to know a 50 year old Pisces woman who used to grab everything and stick it on her head and say it was a crown. One can see how the Astrology says that a child's life is extremely involved in Jupiterian types of activies. I suppose I assume that one could direct one's child into applying for a Master's degree or in shooting some Heroin if one wants to put things in the adult perspective of typical Jupiterian activities, but perhaps the Princess thing is just a phase that many little girls have to go through.

The talk show I heard today was interesting -- the one with the author and book title I can't remember. Mothers calling in were very alarmed about how their daughters were developing unhealthy attitudes towards sexuality by expressing too feminine a side which they felt was connected with this Princess thing. There was a story about a first trip to the dentist in which the dentist kept the child under control by talking about Princess imagery. I have trouble connecting the inside of a mouth with being a Princess, so that's some pretty crazy Neptune imagination right there. This might be a rich kid thing anyway. Maybe poor kids don't have this obsession with Princesses at all.

They talked about how little girls are learning about their looks around this age, and playing dress up. There's the obsession with pink and purple. A Father called in and agreed that he had observed the same things in his daughter. But he noticed that his daughter had grown out of it.

Also interesting to note is that the first Pallas Athene return happens between Age 4 and 5. The other modern feminist types of asteroids come at this age as well. So perhaps Mothers can try to develop that imagery in their daughters' lives as well. From what I've observed they naturally do anyway. Ceres is the great Mother imagery. Some little girls probably still like to play dolls. Maybe Modern Mothers should teach them how to drive a tractor instead. Don't know if little girls go through any Juno phases at this time, she's Zeus' wife. I know my friends and I thought about marriage a lot at that age.

A man in a leather jacket stands outside a supermarket and asks strangers walking by to commit illegal acts on a woman who is standing inside with a baby in a stroller. When people question his authority he flashes a badge which he has bought online. Only 1 out of 22 people doesn't do what he says and that person ends up helping him to steal the woman's baby anyway. People steal the woman's wallet, place what they think is a drug into her drink, steal her baby. It's really amazing.

Interesting what a Neptunian crime this is. The man gets them to commit the illegal acts by appealing to their empathy. All he has to do is to tell them that the woman has stolen the baby.

Imagine how much damage a real police officer could do if he decided to hurt someone.

MKULTRA

I don't remember hearing about this project. And, maybe that's intentional.

While laughing my head off at some of the videos having to do with gang stalking I found one of President Clinton confirming and apologizing for CIA experiments that were done on unwitting citizens back in the 50s and 60s.

Sorry, don't mean to laugh about the videos, it's just that they seem more like a cover-up than reality.

Anyway, back to the CIA and Mind Control and how much Fun is that?

Apparently there was this one operation called "Midnight Climax" in which LSD was given to men who went to whorehouses and their behavior was observed by the CIA through two way mirrors. This happened in San Francisco and Marin and New York, was supposedly shut down in 1965, and is probably the real reason for the Summer of Love in 1967.

So it sort of looks like Sun-Neptune is involved in mind control. And also in victimizing people without their consent. Venus is involved as well. And maybe unaspected Mercury.

The CIA program, MKULTRA was started on a New Moon in Aries conjunct Venus Rx. That says something special about the relationship axis right there. Sun and Moon in Aries in aggressive and Venus RX can't move. What a great time to start a program where you target people without their consent. This conjunction opposes an outer planet conjunction of Neptune 23 Libra Rx-Saturn 24 Libra Rx. This hooks the Mars-Venus personal energy into an overall feeling of being fearful and depressed and out of control by the general public.

The program was ended in 1973. At that point the Venus Retrograde in the natal chart was Stationing Direct by progression at 15 Aries. And transiting Uranus was in conjunction with the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Libra. Gottlieb was a stutterer and had a club foot. His life goal was to figure out "how to crush the human psyche."

Gottlieb had a natal conjunction of Sun to Neptune and Saturn just like the one which was occurring when he set up MKULTRA. His natal Saturn-Neptune conjunction was in Leo. MKULTRA was started during a Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Libra. And I thought that was just a signature for Broadway Musicals...

Sun 11 Leo; Moon Gemini or Cancer; NN 20 Sagittarius Rx.

The CIA was giving LSD to whomever they felt like giving it to. So they gave it to a Biochemist who they met at a meeting. 10 days later the Biochemist committed suicide by jumping out a window and the CIA made up a story about how he had suffered from depression.

His name was Frank Olson. Olson had Sun conjunct Mercury and Neptune in Cancer which opposed Uranus 24 Capricorn Rx.

He was going through his Neptune square and his Uranus opposition at that point, so that significant natal opposition was under serious stress. Notice the death date. 1953 right after the program was started. It went on for 20 more years. Everyone at the CIA didn't give a shit. You know, a friend of my Mother's had always said that she had been given LSD and she was never quite right again. At the time she was going through a divorce so everyone said that this was just the stress from that. I don't know what her husband did, but I do know that there's a high probability that he worked for the Defense dept. How great to work for the Government when you're trying to avoid making alimony payments.

Will California be Deluged?

I was sort of hoping that California would finally attract a decent set of artists during its Neptune Return in Pisces is coming up. I was also hoping that someday all the broken down underground plumbing would get fixed. All I wanted was to be able to flush and not have to have it all come back up at me. As they say, be careful what you wish for.

Yahoo is flailing an end of the world article about how 100 Scientists say that we're due for a big Superstorm that will wipe out a quarter of the houses.

Neptune is ruler of Pisces and Pisces is a water sign, ruler of the oceans, atmosphere and breaking down of barriers. And flooding. Turns out that this happens every 150 years or so in California. That's very close to a Neptune Return which is about 156 years.

Back in 1861-62 the Central Valley was flooded so badly that the State Capitol was moved. I can't remember from where to where. Oh, San Jose to Sacramento.

California's natal Neptune is at 6 Pisces. The chart listed on Astrodienst gives a time for California which looks too hunky dorey to be an accurate time. This chart places Neptune in the 4th House trining Scorpio Rising and Moon.

Back at the time of that last Deluge, Neptune was right at the end of Pisces/beginning of Aries. That's the beginning of the chart wheel.

California will have a Neptune Return within the next few years. Then will have a Uranus Return soon after. Both Planets are in aspect with each other and with the Ascendant of this chart and with Pluto, planet of crisis, as well. And Uranus is conjunct n.Pluto at 30 Aries on the same degree.

Plus, California is a Virgo so has a very large number of Scientists who know what they're talking about.

Gabrielle Giffords Shooting

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Tucson, Arizona was shot by a 22-year old man in front of a grocery store yesterday while meeting with her constituents. 19 people were injured and 6 have died as a result of the shooting. A 9-year old girl was killed as well as a well respected Judge. Giffords is alive and Doctors say she is giving good signs for recovery.

I wish Congresswoman Giffords a complete recovery and send my condolences to all the families and friends who have been victimized by this senseless act.

It's basically too early to give much of a reading, but I got curious anyway. If the birth dates I have are correct for Giffords and the shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, their basic charts show some really eerie connections.

Their Sun Signs square each other by a degree. Giffords is a Gemini Sun and Loughner is a Virgo Sun. Squares are considered challenging aspects but without the rest of the chart one can't say whether this is a bad challenge or a good one. Squares will add a lot of energy to the relation between how these two people project their Sun Energy which can mean Ego Projection, Search for spotlight, creativity. Giffords, as a Gemini Sun working in Politics is considered a moderate Democrat. Gemini's are known not to commit to one predictable path, so Giffords' sided with both gun rights law and pro-choice law. She walked two sides of the fence. I'm not sure what Loughner's problem with Giffords is exactly, but as a Virgo one can expect him to project a hyper critical stance of anyone who he feels has errors of thinking. Virgo is known for attention to detail, rather than looking at larger pictures. Both Sun Signs are ruled by the same planet, Mercury. Mercury rules aspects of cognition. In very simple terms, Gemini rules verbal communication and fine motor coordination while Virgo rules analysis of details. Both are related to the nervous system.

Another interesting connection is that both assailer and assailant share the same Nodal Axis with North Node in Pisces and South Node in Virgo. The Nodal Axis will describe Life Path and Destiny. Giffords' North Node was conjunct the ASC-Moon-Neptune-Chiron at the time of the shooting. Neptune is the Ruler of Pisces, and as such is the ruler of the entire chart and the North Nodes of both people.

The Nodal Axis is often seen (but, not always) in conjunction with the angles at the time of a significant event. Pisces is related to feelings of great empathy and sacrifice. It is also related to "losers" and "addicts." One can see how both sides of this sign which is the chart ruler is shown in this event. Loehner posted apologies asking for forgiveness before the event. That's typical of how Neptune manipulates. There's a feeling that one has to give up to chaos, and usually a projection of being a martyr of a higher purpose.

Giffords at age 40 is going through her first Neptune Square. Natal Neptune is at 30 Scorpio Rx so it is up at the top of the chart of the shooting squaring the ASC-Moon-Chiron-Neptune. As Neptune is changing signs in a few months and moving into the sign which it rules which is connected with feeling lost and hopeless and boundariless, I hope this doesn't foreshadow similar events in the future.

Loughner's Nodal Axis plays a huge role in his chart as he was born on the same day as an Annular Solar Eclipse and has both Sun and Moon conjunct his South Node. It would be interesting to see how the recent Eclipses affected these charts. Loughner has a natal conjunction of Saturn-Uranus in Sagittarius conjunct Neptune in Capricorn. This has been getting hit hard by the conjunction of Mercury-Pluto-NN and the recent Eclipse set (total Lunar on Dec. 21, something solar on Jan. 4). Loughner also has a conjunction of Lilith to the South Node.

A really interesting connection between these two are their Mars-Chiron squares which overlay each other. Giffords has natal Mars in the sign of Cancer, which is in its Fall. This is a difficult placement for Mars which is the planet that in its positive aspects gives one initiative to begin new projects. Cancer is the homebody planet which often doesn't express itself through direct behavior so there can be a problem when these two connect. Since Cancer is a receptive/reactive sign, often the initiative that one puts out will attract anger in others through indirect and emotional "vibes." (Well, i said it's problematic). On the other hand, Loehner's natal Mars is in its own sign of Aries which can give too much initiative, not enough thought to one's actions and impulse/anger control. With both in squares to their natal Chiron there can be an uncontrollable element to how the aspect plays out and together with the square aspect this can be difficult.

Loughner's Chiron 7 Cancer is conjunct Giffords' n. Mars at 5 Cancer. And, Loughner's natal Mars at 10 Aries is conjunct her Chiron at 10 Aries. Mars is connected with violence and war and impulse and rage. Loughner's natal Mars is placed very strongly in headstrong Aries. Giffords was shot in the Head (Mars/Aries) at point blank range. Chiron is an asteroid which brings in the myth of the Teacher/Healer who could fix everything except his own wounds.

The media coverage was sort of hysterical and cruel. While the shooter was aiming at Giffords other people were killed and wounded but the coverage neglected these poeple in order to force its own agenda. Immediately turned to the political climate of Arizona and concluded that illegal immigration was the main motive behind the shooting. It turns out that Loehner has big gripes against the Government overall in addition to mental disorders and addictions. The transiting chart shows Mercury in Sagittarius (communication of opinions, media) conjunct the North Node and Pluto (power) in the 10th House (Government) squares the Jupiter-Uranus in Pisces conjunction in the 1st House. This shows the inflamed and exaggerated coverage by the media and also brings up the discussion of how the hysteria created by media can affect people who are emotionally and mentally vulnerable.

Living the Dream

California is about to have a Neptune Return, but, we're not quite there yet. The exhaustion is mounting that's for sure. We definitely need a new act and a new art form. But, in California, I keep hearing very cynical people yelping about how they've met yet another person who is out here "living the dream." "Living the dream" usually involves doing something really stupid.

So, here's one of those stories.

A rock band of aging 30-something ego problems blocked 4 out of 5 lanes of traffic on an L.A. freeway yesterday afternoon at Rush Hour by jumping on top of a truck plastered with their band logo. The marketing was all there. People who drive the rush hour traffic in L.A. are never in a very good mood and sitting in one's car for extended periods of time isn't really all that special of an event. What they are pissed off about is that the band has no talent and this was just another obnoxious act of desperation.

The lack of talent will hopefully ease up when Neptune hits Pisces. Granted the drivers on the L.A. freeways are among the most chemically altered in the World, but, still, they could use a little Neptune influence themselves to enjoy this stupid shit. Best to put this stuff off until after the Saturn, Uranus, Pluto stuff passes over. Those planets like to use the Infrastructure for other purposes.

Suicide Crisis Among Gay Teen Males

More than 5 boys have committed Suicide within the last month, mostly due to bullying and harassment from others concerning their sexual orientation. The death of Tyler Clementi who was a freshman at Rutgers University in New Jersey brought the whole crisis to major national attention. His death was extra horrific because he was basically raped by his roommate and dormmate over the Internet. It also occurred while there was a Full Moon placed over the big outer planet t-square.

I don't have birth dates for any of the victims so I will provide dates of death down below. I send my condolences to the friends, families who are affected. Hopefully, all communities are feeling affected by this epidemic and are now on the alert for their behaviors.

One first has to try to understand what astrological indicators indicate "homosexuality" and then one has to try to understand what indicates "Bullying" and then one has to understand what can happen involving "Suicide." None of these three subjects has been dealt with very well by Astrologers as far as I know so everything I say here is going to be my own opinion. Basically, I don't know. I'm just going to babble a few things that I think might be related.

Out of about 10 charts of homosexual men that I've looked at 9 had a challenging aspect from Mars to Uranus in their birth charts. Many also had a challenging aspect from Venus to Uranus. I haven't looked at gay womens' charts so I don't have any opinion about those. Mars represents the Male Energy. Uranus represents rebellion and very open minded thinking so this could just be the result of my having lived in California which is a place where Gays can live more openly than in other places. Venus represents the female principle of relationships and one on one relationships like marriage so one can see how if configured with Uranus it might make one more open to experimentation.

There are probably several reasons for homosexuality so one would have to understand all the possibilities in that regard. If homosexuality is genetic, then the Moon, Cancer and 4th House will somehow be involved. If abuse is involved, then one might look more at Mars or Pluto. That would take a doctoral degree's worth of study to understand.

There is currently a conjunction of Venus to Mars happening. This shows things connected to relationships, especially involving sexuality. On Sept. 9, 2010 the first Suicide occurred (from the list that I have, this is part of a bigger problem which started earlier on) in Greensburg, Indiana when 15 year old Billy Lucas hung himself after being bullied. Venus was at 1 Scorpio conjunct Mars in Libra at about 25 degrees . Both planets are debilitated in these signs. Libra rules Relationships and Mars rules Sex and Death so one can easily see the elevated significance of these planets working together in this situation. This conjunction was trining Neptune 27 Aquarius conjunct Chiron 28 Aquarius. Neptune is often connected with Suicidal feelings, feelings of being martyred, and Chiron is connected with aspects of ourselves that we can't fix but can teach others through. They are in the sign of Aquarius, ruled by Uranus which I just said I think is related to homosexuality. Trines will often show a need to get a release from problems whereas Squares and other hard aspects will show an ability to internalize and perhaps fight against the problem.

All the Suicides after Billy Lucas' occurred with Venus-Mars in Scorpio conjunctions. The intensity of sexuality and death as indicated by this connection is very powerful here. Scorpio relates to extreme actions. It might also be connected with a viral type of emotional despondency which will lead to suicide. Young men, going through the extreme hormonal changes at this age would be especially vulnerable. Scorpio rules sexuality. Kids at this age lack balance(Venus-Libra) as they try to understand how they relate to others (Aries-Libra Axis).

The Sun and Moon are also involved in hormonal problems. The Sun, at least for a while, on Sept. 9 was unaspected by major aspect to other planets. The Sun is probably also strongly related to Suicide as it relates to Vitality and Freedom from Self Consciousness, and fear of the shadows. Unfortunately, bullies need a little more self-consciousness, more fear of their own shadow behaviors and motivations.

As far as I know the next Suicide didn't happen until Sept. 19 when Seth Walsh hung himself in California. At this point the Sun was opposing Jupiter-Uranus and thus joining the big outer planet t-square. Tyler Clementi was the next Suicide on Sept. 22 when he jumped off a bridge. There was a Full Moon on both the Aries points and the outer planet t-square. The Sun on last degree Virgo was conjunct Saturn and the Moon was passing over the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces. This really does illustrate the transfer of energy from Pisces to Aries. The Moon in Cancer was then opposing Pluto-NN on Sept. 30 when Caleb Nolt died in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He's the latest, as far as I know. Please, kids, let it be the last.

NOTE: I don't know times of death so don't have exact placements for the Moon in any of these cases.

On September 9 there was also a conjunction of Moon in Libra to Saturn in Libra. Libra again brings up the idea of relationships and being super sensitive to what others think of one's self. Moon and Saturn are the planets which provide conservative structure within society. They rule family traditions and status in society. They also rule feelings of being picked on (Moon) and of being a failure (Saturn) and of not being respected (Saturn).

Saturn in Libra is actually exhalted which is supposed to be a positive thing. But Saturn is heavily aspectged as he has been for a year now. For one is going through a square to Pluto and the North Node in the sign of his rulership. Saturn-Pluto squares are the ultimate Bully aspect, probably along with some other negative problems like out of control Sun and/or Jupiter and Mercury. Pluto in Capricorn will be very concerned with power and domination and status and conformity. In the end it may cleanse and wipe out bad ideas concerning these traits in society on the large, but it will sacrifice many people before that. Saturn and Pluto working together can make the greatest changes in whatever they touch. This can be a magical level of force when used for good but if basic sensitivities and ethics aren't taught they will simply tread on everything in their path for their own benefit. Most of our best politicians have a strong conjunction of Mars-Saturn-Pluto in their charts. Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, and Bill Richardson. One can see how brilliant these people are but one can see how much they tend to be pulled back. All 3 have suffered serious set backs in their careers that would wipe out most other politicians. Saturn-Pluto can set very high standards and drive as easily as it can turn a person into a bully and a lot of this can be related to upbringing.

I've tried to discuss racism a little bit before. That's never discussed by astrologers either. Nothing can be described by a birth chart absolutely and depends on many other factors in an individuals' life. I suspect that Racism comes from some sort of prominence or imbalance in the first 3 or 4 signs of the Zodiac but certainly anything that occurs on a mass scale involves all the signs. Xenophobia, or fear of anyone who is different from one's self will come from not understanding how to deal with and accept strangers within one's tribe. Usually there is a good reason for these fears and often the Outer Planet signs won't allow discussion of the reasons. Sometimes it is lack of tolerance which can be a Saturnian/Capricorn thing. Fear of change can be a Fixed Sign thing. In the end it is pretty easy to see how all signs can be involved.

Looking back at the big t-square that's occurring right now, we see that on September 9, 2010 Jupiter and Uranus were opposing Saturn-Moon and squaring Pluto-NN. Jupiter represents Opinions and Uranus, at least in part, will represent homosexuality as it exists in current society at least. Jupiter-Uranus were both at 30 Pisces which is at the Aries Point. This is the birthing point of the Astrological Wheel when a whole new cycle begins, like the eve before Spring. I've already mentioned Pisces' connection with suicidal feelings and martyrdom. On the larger outer planet scale, society is deciding what growth it wants to encourage. Obviously young Gay men are suffering a whole lot. It seems that they might be benefiting from the public controversies over Gay marriage but maybe this is actually making their adolescence years even more difficult. Probably the pushing (Saturn) of the older Gay community for equality in Marriage rights is bringing up a lot of challenges for the community as a whole. Saturn in Libra is a great time to think about this problem, but the current t-square will set the kind of tone that creates Loss. Overall, this isn't the best time. Not only are these young boys going through hormonal changes, difficult as that is, but their sexual attractions are being hotly discussed from all angles. Their self-identities are in upheaval. Older generations maybe couldn't be as open about their coming out but they also weren't the center of attention.

EDIT 10/4 to ADD:

Just to tie this in with my other research about trauma in children of divorce I will point out the theory (don't know how much of it is my own) that the stages of development in children and people correspond remarkably close to the first planetary cycles. A child will go through a major stage of development during the first progressed Moon/Saturn opposition which occur around Ages 13 and 14. There is another major phase of development around the time of the first Nodal Return at around Age 18.8. (Children with Sun-Venus conjunctions in their charts often seem to go through major 8 year cycles - age 8 and 16 in this case.) The ages of these boys seem to mostly correspond with those cycles and the two astrological influences involved are caught up in the big outer planet t-square. Saturn in Libra and, wow, talk about a difficult Nodal Return with Pluto in Conjunction to the North Node right now.

Two boys were 15 years old. I think that might be connected with Chiron, but mostly I think that age 15 just sucks. There's a wide gap during adolescence where most kids don't go through major planetary cycles, or parts of cycles. It seems that this is their first real chance in life to express themselves. Most of us remember what kind of pain is involved with that exploration.

The Souls of the Feet

They say that the eyes are the Windows to your soul. That's where people tend to think they can see whether or not another person is lying. But, according to a Dean of Psychology at the University of Manchester, Geoff Beattie, one looks to the feet to figure out whether or not a person is lying. Apparently people will hold their feet very still, almost as if to ground themselves, when they are lying. That's so Neptunian. He says that people will also hold their hands still and gesture less. Lying is often most attributed to Mercury and Neptune in astrology and they just happen to rule hands and feet.

Beattie also describes other "unconscious behaviors" (so Neptunian) that people will communicate through their feet. Women will show sexual interest in men by moving their feet away from their bodies. Beattie says this isn't true for men who will use a head tilt posture of some type. Men will show nervousness through their feet, however.

Now I know how those Pisces women get lucky. I always thought it was those beautiful Elizabeth Taylor eyes.

Interesting this information comes out during a conjunction of Jupiter to Neptune.

That's Not My Mommy

John Barnes has had a buggaboo all his life that he didn't belong in his family. Well, John, don't we all? I mean, some people have a real family, but in California we don't meet too many of those.

John Barnes is this guy.

At Age whatever he is, 50 something, John decided to have a DNA test to figure out if he is really somebody else's kid. He doesn't look, walk, talk like anyone in his family and he's found a photo of an abducted boy from the 50s who he really does look like. He tells the whole media, or at least the media gets a hold of the story, and the media turns it into a Mini Reality Circus. Is John's weird story true? Can Modern Science confirm John's deepest paranoias?

And so today we get the results from the DNA test. Wonder if they sell these in the store next to the pregnancy tests? Does John have the same DNA as the kidnapped boy from the Mid-50s? Will John get a whole new family who makes him feel at home -- finalleeeeee?

Well, well. You already felt like an outsider in your family, John. I don't know how much of this shit they can put up with. 50 something is a little old to be banging a rattle against the crib walls. Your parents must be on death's door. Couldn't you have waited until after they died to have the test? Or at least not have made a media monkey dance out of it?

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. And, of course, after looking at the chart I find out that John has the same nasty Venus-Mars-Pluto conjunction that I do. Nobody with this conjunction is going to feel at home, except maybe Murderers who are related to other Murderers. John's conjunction is all in Leo and it's conjunct the Sun which rules Leo so it's extra powerful. And Jupiter and maybe even the Moon are within conjunction. This guy needs to feel that he is extra special in some way. He also probably gets really bad depressions during Winter from lack of light with all this Leo. (Leo/Sun, light, get it?)

John, get an Ott light or move to Florida or New Mexico. Or California, it's a State of greedy rich people and screwed up misfits, weird, huh? you'll fit right in.

Mostly I think John's trauma is an example of just how difficult a Neptune transit can be especially when it happens to one's Sun. Transiting Neptune in Aquarius has been opposing John's giganormous Leo stellium for the last few years. Neptune opposing Sun can be rather un-grounding. The opposition puts one in really ridiculous emotional relationships with people. It's the Don Quixote stabbing at wine bags syndrome and the searching for sweet Dulcinea thing.

To add to that, Barnes' progressed Mercury stationed Retrograde back in 1999 or 2000. That's still pretty recent. Mercury rules the rational thought processes. Here his Mercury is pulling U'ys. What a combo. Take a breather, John. You might be somebody else's kid, but you're not going to find it out during a major Neptune transit. Mostly I think you belong to that Flower Power Generation that just needs to rebel against everything in order to find a higher ideal (Jupiter square Saturn, Uranus square Neptune). Whatever, I'm part of the generation that had to follow you guys and you all are utterly exhausting (but highly amusing). The Nodes show that you may be picking up on some really happy past life vibes that you want to re-live so maybe you might want to consider getting into past life regressions and things now.

Noel Tyl on Mexico's Latest Problems

Miracle on the Hudson

Yesterday a Miracle happened in New York. Why do Miracles only happen in New York? I can't answer that. But anyway, U.S. Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency landing right into the Hudson River. It looked on the newsreels like the pilot got really upset about wanting his own parking space in downtown Manhattan. The plane, headed from La Guardia airport to Charlotte North Carolina, ran in to a flock of geese. Nobody's talking about the welfare of the birds but apparently both engines were struck. With nowhere else to go the pilot dropped the plane down into the River. By happy circumstance, the plane landed very near the ferry building so help came almost immediately to the passengers. All 155 passengers made it out alive with very few injuries.

The pilot is America's newest Hero. His name is Chesley B. (Sully) Sullenberger III. I just noticed that some people on Noel Tyl's forum have located a birth date and are discussing it at www.noeltyl.com. If the data is correct Sullenberger's an Aquarius, which is considered a natural Sun Sign placement for a pilot. Airplanes are ruled by Aquarius as as are Migratory Birds. Sagittarius and Gemini, as rulers of travel are also indicated. Rex Bills even lists Neptune as a ruler for Pilots, which is very interesting to look at in the event chart.

Crash Lands into the Hudson River

When you look at this chart what stands out is the Saturn-Uranus opposition which almost exactly crosses the IC/MC axis; the bottom and top of the chart. That right there says a lot about Take Offs and Landings, and Safety (Saturn) and Unexpected events and Earth (Saturn) and Flight(Uranus). Uranus, as I said, rules Airplanes. It also rules Miracles (along with Neptune); anything that can't really be explained by ordinary mortals. Saturn can cause clogs and delays and it also rules Lead. So, with this placement it would make sense that Lift-off might be more difficult. It would be interesting to see if Saturn is often figuring strong in the background of Miraculous events. As they say in the arts world, success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration and Saturn is generally the task masker of the horoscope. Sullenberger has 40 years' experience and is an expert in safety issues concerning airplane travel.

So, I was remembering the bad take off that happened back in Denver, Colorado back in December. I wrote about it in "Airplane Crash on Take-Off Denver Airport". In that case the Airplane veered off the runway and blew up in to flames and all passengers miraculously survived. I found that there are big similarities between these two charts.

Both of these charts have Cancer Rising with Moon in the 4th House. That could indicate a public event and a water landing and a protective influence. Am not sure if cause of the Denver episode has been determined. The Moon in the Hudson River event is conjunct the Libra Point and it's interesting to see how much more appealing this story is in the public eye.

Both Charts have the Saturn-Uranus opposition crossing near the IC/MC axis. The Denver Chart has them placed in the 3d - 9th Houses. The New York Chart has them in the 4th - 10th Houses and approaching the IC/MC axis by about 2 degrees.

In addition, the 8th House of Death is packed in both charts. This is really curious as both 4th and 8th Houses co-rule Death. They seem to be charts of events where Mass quanities (Cancer Moon influence, also Aquarius) managed to cheat Death. I'm sure Pluto is really happy about being cheated...(sarcasm)

Both Charts have the Aquarius (again, airplanes) North Node conjunct Chiron in the 8th House. That seems to be the common denominator. In the Hudson river chart, Mercury Rx is conjunct Jupiter over the 8th house cusp. In the Denver chart I believe that there was a Venus-Neptune conjunction in the 8th House. I attributed that aspect to the miracle part of the event but now think that it must be associated with the Aquarius North Node. And Aquarius is known to function better when accompanied by all sorts of happy friends. There are no malefics in the 8th Houses of these charts.

Neptune in the Hudson River Chart is just conjunct the 9th House cusp, so Neptune might still count, especially since these charts are describing events that happen to the Airline Industry which they co-rule.

For what it's worth, Mars at 15 Capricorn is angular and opposing the Ascendant from the 7th House. Mars rules accidents, interesting to see Saturn's influence on accidents here as Saturn rules preparation and caution. Mars trines Saturn in this (event) chart along with the 7th House Sun.

Boy, Bernard Madoff is the guy who has been running the50B $$$ Ponzi ring on Wall Street since Only God Knows When. I saw that this guy was born the same year as my Bitchy Ex-Step-Mother, and I wondered how close in time their Birthdays would have been.

Well, on the Step-M front, same Sun, but a Month's difference. Purty dang close. Really arfin similar only she would never admit her guilt.

Interesting how both this guy and the Blag Governor Guy in Illinois both have Scorpio North Nodes and are getting caught right now. I've heard that Scorpio North Node is the most traumatic and it certainly seems to be panning out in that regard at this point in time. Is Pluto in Capricorn somehow affecting them with a little Payback time thing? Or are they such workaholics that the only way for them to take a vacation is to do jail time?

I don't know because no birth time, but Bernard Madoff could possibly be a new Moon "Baby" in Taurus. That would be interesting from an Astrological Point of View because Taurus is associated with Money and Banking. (If he has an Aries Moon then he would also have that in common with the Chicago Governor.) Scorpio is associated with Investments and Other People's Money. So the Sun, possibly Moon and North Node would all be putting Madoff in this category and would explain his natural attraction to this area of life.

And that's not a bad thing, necessarily.

Madoff's ability to shmooze is shown in a number of aspects. It's shown in his conjunction of Venus in Taurus to Mars in Gemini. That's especially good for anything involving Money and Values and Markets. His Venus is conjunct his South Node and squares his Jupiter at 29 Aquarius. This ties this "charm" aspect to his Fate. And charm often leads to the ability to get away with stuff, depending on a person's upbringing, the rest of his chart, etc.

Another good Shmooze aspect is the trine between Uranus 14 Taurus and Neptune 19 Virgo. Madoff's Taurus Sun is conjunct his Uranus. I'd expect that to be a super friendly combination, for sure. Taurus is easy going, so is Uranus. They're both Friendly. This seems to be the "BIGGEE" aspect that has tripped Madoff up through progressions and transits. Madoff's Solar Arc Neptune is conjunct to the degree of his Natal North Node. Neptune rules Pisces and Twelfth House which rules Self-Undoing. Nobody would have caught him, they were all "glitzed" by him and his magical money making abilities. Uranus and Neptune work express themselves according to what large amounts of people do. The people in charge apparently were making too much money off of him to really care about how he was doing what he was doing.

As I said, Madoff's North Node was in Scorpio which is a very difficult North Node to deal with as it is. As I said, Solar Arc Neptune is conjunct it. In addition, Transiting Neptune is approaching a square to it.

Checked Progressed Neptune. Don't know if this matters but natal Neptune progressed out of (natal) Rx position in 1960s sometime just after he opened his business. Perhaps it had something to do with how he started to get off track in his business dealings.

Finally, and probably most significant, then there's the big Saturn-Uranus opposition that's currently transiting the Sky. Transiting Saturn is hitting Madoff's natal Neptune 19 Virgo. Uranus is opposing.

Natal North Node is also heavily aspected. It is opposing Venus (and Mars); squaring Jupiter; trining Pluto; inc. Chiron 28 Gemini; inconjunct Mercury Rx 27 Aries.

On the news last night Christopher Cox admitted that mistakes were made in tracking Madoff since 1999. An interesting astrological association might be made as there was the big once every 20 year conjunction of Juipter to Saturn in Taurus in the first part of 2000. This would have been conjunct very close to Madoff's Sun. This made his ego bloat more out of control, gave extra power especially in financial services. And all his activities would have been veiled by all the Neptunian aspects. Neptune finally caused the self-undoing, he lifted his own veil.

Hamlet as Venusian or Saturnian?

I've recently acquired a couple of different audiobook classes about Shakespeare's Tragedies at some book sales. I've read the play Hamlet a few times and honestly never understood what all the broohaha was about. It just seemed to be a long play about nutty people. And, of course, that's my own nuttiness kicking in along with my ADD. But I like the idea of the Tragedy based on Revenge in Families theme.

First I listened to Harold Bloom's lectures on Hamlet which I purchased from Barnes & Noble. So exciting, for a while at least. Bloom goes on and on saying that Hamlet's intelligence is superior to everyone on earth and never really explains why. Probably I was just spacing out during the parts where he explained, maybe it's my own lack of said Quality that just doesn't get it. But then, Bloom goes into all the psychobabble about Hamlet's life and says that Hamlet's only emotional support was from his Tutor Yorik who died when Hamlet was 7 years old. This creates the emphasis on unresolvable grief that is in the play and shows the loneliness of Hamlet's childhood. Blooms explains that there is much confusion among scholars about Hamlet's age during the play. Bloom says that Hamlet is 30 years old when the play takes place.This is stated in the Graveyard Scene in Act. 5. Things are sounding pretty Saturnian at this point as this is the time of the Saturn Return. I'm seeing Saturnian themes all over the place in the story, of course: Death of Father, Remarriage of Mother, Calculated Revenge, Thwarted Desire, Longest Play, Play named after Shakespeare's Son.

In the story, Hamlet is approached by his Father's Ghost and tells Hamlet that he was murdered by Hamlet's Uncle who has recently rushed to marry his Mother. He's also taken over as King of Denmark. "There's something rotten in Denmark." Hamlet is completely confused by the apparition of his Father and needs proof that his Uncle is his Father's murderer. He stages a play reenacting his Father's Murder to see how his Uncle will react. When his Uncle leaves the room Hamlet has his proof. Even still, his actions are not direct. This causes one goof after another and in the end everyone in the play is dead. That's how tragedy goes. And some families.

So that was fun. I figured I would blog the Saturn thing. Hamlet's character showed what happens when the Saturn Return can't be handled. I also tend to associate the sign of Capricorn with extreme intelligence, although I still don't get why Hamlet is so bright. The structures in a person's life can fall apart and force a person to face his own immaturity. That's a Saturn transit. But, Saturnians don't doddle when it comes to making decisions. They take it for granted that they know who killed whom and they place the judgment immediately without making up tests and putting on plays. Saturn will present tough decisions which must be executed with a level of coldness and matter of factness.

The 2d set of Brilliant College Lectures that I found at a Library Sale (from the Teaching Company) explains that Hamlet's personality is the ultimate Protestant Character. This makes a whole lot of sense to me. I spent an entire year once writing a never ending essay that pondered why it is that Protestants don't feel guilt. It seems that Hamlet was doing the same thing. Or at least his Mom and Uncle should have been feeling the guilt. The Teaching Company Lectures are awesome, highly recommended. I can't remember the Teacher's name, the set fell under the seat of my car and parts tend to get drowned out by road noise so I've taken a little break. Besides, I have to read Othello before moving on. I don't believe Hamlet's age is discussed in these lectures as much.

So I've been Googling around and found this great article:

which says that Hamlet would have been much younger between Age 16-20. The article also says that there will always going to be confusion about this. Hamlet is always referred to as a student in the play and 30 year olds weren't considered of Student Age during Shakespeare's time.

If Hamlet were 16 in the play, his actions would make total sense astrologically. This is a Venus Return year of sorts. It's one of the 8 year-cycles where Venus and the Sun return to their natal spots, or very close to. I tend to think that the Ages of 8 years and 16 years really do mark significant times in children's lives in things Venusian. Social skills, cooties separate the girls from the boys at 8 and bring them back together again at around age 16. Friends are very important at these ages. I have no idea if real astrologers agree with me about these Venus Cycles. (Bruce Scofield has written a really great book about planetary cycles and children's development which I've read half of which is called The Circuitry of the Self.)

At any rate, Hamlet's story makes much better sense when seen from a Sun-Venus point of view. Hamlet must have been born with a conjunction of those two planets. The Returns of these planets together with each other seems to be extra potent as expressed in their lives. At least I've found that to be true in a couple of examples.

For one, indecision is a major Venus theme through the Libra need to maintain balance, to seek justice, to weigh both sides of a situation. Putting on of the play in order to test the Uncle's guilt is a very sophisticated Venusian action. "To Be or Not To Be" is certainly a Venusian statement (or could also be Neptunian as discussed below). Hamlet as a Youth and Student suggests an Inner Planet Character trying to deal on an Outer Planet Scale and not quite succeeding. This seems to me to be the essence of this whole play. The Taurus rulership of Venus which rules Setting of Values is also very prominent and can actually be seen as the root of Hamlet's indecision. The putting on of the play, a leisurely activity, is Venusian. Ophelia, Hamlet's Fiance (Venus=Women in one's life), commits Suicide is very Sun-Venus. Just can't cope.

Saturn is certainly a very strong presence here as one would expect in a story about dealing with one's parents. But this play is about Hamlet the Child of the parents. It shows how difficult it is to deal with and bring justice to the behaviors of family members who have done the wrong thing. How can a Sun-Venus person possibly understand the calculating ruthlessness of a Saturnian person? It can't. Or at least in Astrology it is given from Age 16 (time of the Sun-Venus return energy) to Age 28-29 (time of the Saturn Return) to figure out how.

Harold Bloom says that this play above all others is Shakespeare's most autobiographical. According to the Astrotheme chart for Shakespeare he was very Venusian both Taurus Sun and Libra Moon dispose to Venus. Shakespeare's North Node, however, was in Capricorn which shows the reaching for the Saturnian influence.

The Astrotheme chart also shows a Cancer rising which I'm guessing is the result of someone's rectification talents which I question. It does create another strong Saturnian influence in the chart as Saturn here is placed in the 1st House and is conjunct Jupiter showing Shakespeare's great awareness of how society as a whole works. As Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions happen every 20 years there could be yet another argument that Hamlet's age was 20 years old. The Neptune semi-square happens around Age 21 or so which could also be an influence as shown in the vision of the Ghost, the theatrics, seeking the Uncles' guilt or innocence through a manipulation game rather than through direct communication. I happen to think that Artists and Writers will express themselves in this way through their creations and characters.
